For anyone who cares -- The TomTom BT Remotes that are commonly available on eBay DO work with the TomTom 740. I purchased one for $12.95 w/shipping. The model number of the remote I bought is 4M02.000
Not a bad deal... and even though the 740 was not listed, I figured it $13 was worth a shot... AND IT WAS!!!
