I just got off the phone with TomTom tech support. I told them my unit no longer worked unless it was plugged into the 12VDC power supply. I asked if I could send the unit back to have the batteries replaced. They told me that they could not be replaced. So my unit I paid 700+ dollars for two years ago is junk. They told me they would give me 50.00 my next purchase. I told them forget it - my brother bought a Garmin Nuvi the same time I bought the TomTom and his unit still works fine. I am jumping ship and buying a Garmin - thanks for a $700.00 paper weight TomTom

Put this in google 'battery replacement for a tomtom 700'. You will get many hits. One of them should help.
