TomTom Model(s)
550
I've had a tom tom sat nav for years and my old 400 kept informing me that the power was lost so I got the standard three options Sleep, Turn off or Cancel.
With a new adventure awaiting I thought its time to purchase a new sat nav so I bought the tom tom 500 rider.
When riding the screen just went black, no notification like when I lost my power, just a black screen. This happened about 10 times on my 7 day trip.
It would always happen when I came to my junction or is that me just being paranoid :). When I got back I returned the tom tom but no fault can be found
I just wondered if anybody else has experienced this with their tom tom rider 550?
Apart from that problem it was brilliant and we never got lost once, rode some awesome roads in the Black Forest but I'm concerned if it fails again will tom tom be interested?

Hi there @Wizzyrsw -

Depending on the angle you have fixed your Rider, it can become confused and “blank out” for a period of time, trying to determine if the screen needs to rotate and show in portrait or landscape. If your Rider were to say, angled more horizontally, (flatter, screen side up facing the user), this is when it would likely occur.
As @raesewell suggests, you can activate the orientation lock within the settings to prevent the issue.
I have my Rider set at this angle (photo below) and have no problem even with orientation lock off, allowing me to manually adjust the orientation when necessary.

Hi there IMG_9469.jpgIMG_9470.jpg,
Thanks for the info I will change the setting and see what happens. Today is the first day of sunshine for a while but I cannot ride so these are photos from the garage. Not sure if you can see the angle of the sat nav from these

Hi @Wizzyrsw -

From the photos you have attached of the vertical landscape positioning of your Rider, there really shouldn’t be any issues of intermittent blank screen occurring. Please report back if the orientation lock has not made a significant difference.
