Tomtom 520 and advanced lane guidance - Possible?

I have a 520 and want advanced lane guidance, is there a software upgrade for this?

Or, do I need to by a new satnav?

Your device will need updating to the latest Navcore and then you need to purchase a new map then you will get the Lane Assist/ reality view.
Note some countries have poor coverage with these features while others are very good, let us know where you are and what map version you currently have installed (to find out tap the sat strength meter followed by the version box, the resultant screen will contain lots of information including the map version) - Mike

Whats the difference with lane assist and advance lane guidance?

That is the Navcore software version, look at the line below for the map version, you need to be using v815 or higher for ALG, reality view and IQ Routes 2 to be working.
With the correct map installed these functions will be supported and work very well in the UK, if you need a new map I would wait a few days and keep your eye on the forum as a new map update release is due any day soon - Mike

Hi, the map is v705.1480. I'llwait for the new map.

is ALG a separate update from the map update?

The ALG/ Reality View and IQ Routes data is embeded within the map data so updating your device to the v840 map once it becomes available will give you all these new bells and whistles, being UK based you will see ALG working on all motorways and some city A class roads, it will transform the device from what you are used to and is a very well worth while upgrade.
Your v705 map is by now quite a few years old so the road network data will also better reflect reality post upgrade, just keep an eye on the forum to find out when they release the next map but my guess is it won't be long - Mike
