TomTom Model(s)
Go Live 1005
We bought the unit from Halfords in May 2015 at a cost of nearly £400 and it worked fine until the last update which I did end of March. Now if you press the button to do the soft reset and hold it you get the drum roll and then the screensaver and it will not go past that screen.
If I continue to hold the button and do the hard reset, it comes up with the spinning cog, then the other screens showing that it should be connected to the computer. After awhile it reverts back to the screensaver and just keeps going on and off.
I phoned the UK number and spoke with someone who sounded like someone from the Far east and he was as much help as a wet paper bag. I also got an email from him to which I responded and then they never replied.
Not happy as prior to the GPS update our Classic bought over 10 years ago still worked, but the 1005 has failed after not even had 4 years usage considering we only use it when towing the caravan!
Any advice please as a replacement will set us back another £400?

Advised that TomTom no longer offer support for my unit which is not even 4 years old.

You're far from the first to identify this particular problem with the Camper version of the 1005. There are other threads here with similar reports. Why the update is hammering this particular model specifically is not clear. I'd give tech support one more call, and make note of the fact that this particular model is having issues and see if you can get any help.

The same problem also in Finland, I found out that there is some problem with the connection to the computer.
I found a message that says:
tom tom has self confirmed its IP address and can not make a internet connection

TomTom could be in breach of Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008;

(a) if it contains false information and is therefore untruthful in relation to any of the matters in paragraph (4) or if it or its overall presentation in any way deceives or is likely to deceive the average consumer in relation to any of the matters in that paragraph, even if the information is factually correct; and

(b) it causes or is likely to cause the average consumer to take a transactional decision he would not have taken otherwise.

And in addition as it was the software update from TomTom that caused the unit plus many others according to forums to freeze up the Consumer Rights Act 2015 would apply;

Section 46 of the Act - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/46

This section applies if—

(a) a trader supplies digital content to a consumer under a contract,

(b) the digital content causes damage to a device or to other digital content,

(c) the device or digital content that is damaged belongs to the consumer, and

(d) the damage is of a kind that would not have occurred if the trader had exercised reasonable care and skill.

(2) If the consumer requires the trader to provide a remedy under this section, the trader must either—

(a) repair the damage in accordance with subsection (3), or

(b) compensate the consumer for the damage with an appropriate payment.

This is currently being investigated by our solicitors with a view to it being progressed to court and TomTom CEO Marina Wyatt has been sent an email. I am not accepting that a "lifetime" is determined by a company and that a "lifetime" could be as little as a year if the supplying company deems that they no longer want to offer support.
Our solicitors are investigating and as it progresses I will update the thread however the more people that hassle TomTom the better and just maybe we will get somewhere as it was the update that caused many units to fail as physically the units are still intact. BTW if you do a factory reset, it does not remove all updates ect and return teh unit to its previous condition as when you bought it.

as fried the chips because of W.R.N.O.
I now have a very expensive paper weight and 25% is a poor offer from
such a major player. will try again Tuesday after Bank holiday.
Good luck one and all.

I bought my Rv which has a Tomtom and the Ram Promaster chassis is 2015.5 while the Winnebago Travato camper part of the 21 ft van is 2016. Can anyone tell me how to find a manual? The problem I currently am trying to resolve is the backup camera interface. Only one time did the camera remain on while I drove forward. Than at a stop it quit. It does always work while backing.

Unclear which TomTom model is installed in your RV. Is this integrated into your dash 'infotainment' system, or is it a standalone unit?

It is in the dash
Sorry. I should have more specific with my question.
Is the TomTom code running on the vehicle's OWN radio/nav system, or is it a standalone unit mounted in the dash?
Could you send us a quick photo? I was unaware that TomTom was supplying to any RV companies. If it were an automotive manufacturer, we'd know exactly which models were possible and could be more specific in our assistance in finding a manual.

I am wondering if the camera code is TomTom at all, but rather, part of the code supplied by the manufacturer of a head unit that happens to be running TomTom code for the navigation feature only.

Glad you found a place to take care of this. What turned out to be the problem???
I have no idea, but when the satnav was returned all my POIs were still on the unit. Turnaround was 3 days from sending it off to it being returned.

Wish we had an outfit in the U.S. that would handle repairs. Sigh.
