I have found this on the tomplayer forums and I found it to be of great help so I figured I would post it over here. (by MrBlue)
"I've made some sample videos for the TomTom GO (widescreen) and the TomTom One (Regular).
Three videos each, ranging from High Quality to Low Quality. To calculate optimal birates I've used the formula above. For the TomTom One I've used 2 different setups. One using the formula above and one using the same bitrates as the TomTom GO, I did this because the calculated bitrates was so low for the TomTom One. Sorry for the crappy file hosting site, just took the first pick.
Sample Videos TomTom GO: (right-click, open in new tab, or window)
High Quality, 700 kbps, DivX, 480x272, 192 kbps CBR audio at 48000 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719830
Medium Quality, 350 kbps, DivX, 480x272, 128 kbps CBR audio at 44100 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719832
Low Quality, 128 kbps, DivX, 480x272, 44 kbps CBR audio at 22050 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719845
Sample Videos TomTom One:
High Quality, 310 kbps, DivX, 320x180, 192 kbps CBR audio at 48000 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719831
Medium Quality, 155 kbps, DivX, 320x180, 128 kbps CBR audio at 44100 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719840
Low Quality, 128 kbps, DivX, 320x180, 44 kbps CBR audio at 22050 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719846
Alternate Sample Videos for the TomTom One, using the same bitrates as the TomTom GO:
High Quality, 700 kbps, DivX, 320x180, 192 kbps CBR audio at 48000 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719829
Medium Quality, 350 kbps, DivX, 320x180, 128 kbps CBR audio at 44100 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719833
Low Quality, 128 kbps, DivX, 320x180, 44 kbps CBR audio at 22050 Hz:http://www.savefile.com/files/1719849
These files might help you when you choose your encoding settings. Look at the differences in the video on the tomtom, and listen to the audio, then you decide what quality is acceptable to you. At least now you have an idea as to how your videos will look."
This is the link to the forum I found this on. There is more information about settings and formulas to figure out bitrates etc...for those who wish to dive in deeper. Thanks to Mr Blue for the original post.
