GO 730
Twice in the past 2 weeks, my GO730 got me in trouble.

1) I have a GO 730. I had to make a trip to California to bring back a motorcycle to Texas. Before leaving home, I used TYRE and traced my route and save it. My plan was to start on Route 50 then Route 89 to US395 which will take me to IH10 for the final trip home. All went fine until I reached US395. After about 50 miles or so, the GPS told me to take the exit right. Why? My plan was to stay on US395. So, I took the exit right and my trouble started. Ended up in a desert. Got lost and if it wasn't for a police car driving by, I may not have been able to post this thread. Why the exit when I traced the route to stay on US395?

2) This past week end, I decided on a ride for breakfast with 7 other bikers. Since I suggested the ride, I, again, traced my route using TYRE and Google map. It was a very simple loop back, almost a circle. Staying on the main roads all the time. Again, while riding TX99, the GPS is telling me to take the next right. This time, knowing my route, I did not follow instructions. For several miles, it keep insisting that I make a u-turn to go back.

What is going on? How accuratly is Google Map & TYRE working together? So far, I don't like what I see.

Anyone faced the same issue?

mbenazeraf, I'd look at TYRE as the problem, not TomTom.

TomTom will sometimes make you go by some weird routing but it will not get you lost, it just can't!

It could be as simple as a point you clicked without noticing while planning. With Gogglemap, it happen to me often and then, the route makes no sense while driving it. We have to pay attention the route we want is really the one we enter and, once it's imported in Tomtom, check again to ensure it's imported properly and with what we want.

Remember, it doesn't import the entire route, only some major points so, the final routin calculated by Google might be different than Tomtom. If you really need to use a specific road, you better point-out to that route on a few points. I've haven't use TYRE a lot but on GoogleMap, it's easy to do.

One other thing is when I'm going on a long trip and do route planning on google/tyre I still carry some paper maps along just for that reason, been led astray a few times my self, some my fault and some the GPS, so I also keep plan B (paper maps) handy..............

When using TYRE and Google maps, be sure to zoom in and make any waypoints on the correct side of the road. If you happen to click on the wrong side of a divided highway... (you won't notice unless you're zoomed in), TomTom will think you want to get to the other lane. It will tell you to exit and maybe go back on the highway the other direction.

This happened to me once. I had the route all planned out and downloaded it. Good thing I checked the route on my TomTom after downloading it from TYRE, becuase it had me doing loops and such. I just had to move or delete a waypoint and the route then worked fine.

Hope this helps.

TYRE screw up?

Thanks to all. I think Rick nailed it. Clicking on the wrong side of a divided highway may cause the GPS to want you to make a turn. I'll be a little more careful next time. I do travel a lot and rely on my Tom Tom to get me there and back. Oh well, my last trip was an advanture to say the least.
