Tom tom one XL not booting

Hi all,

I have had my Tom Tom one XL for well over a year with no problems. I recently brought a 2gb SD card so i can upgrade the maps to the European one as i want to go over to Europe and be able to find my way.

Anyways ive put the SD card into the tom tom and it eventually read it on both the tom tom and tom tom home. now i took the tom tom into work and turned it on and it comes up with the "first time" setup menu, asking me for language, time, left or right hand and the voice. anyways i go through this and after i choose the voice it just sits there and then resets it self and does it all over again.

I've tried resetting it with the little button my the SD card port but that doesnt seem to work.

If i put the SD card into the tom tom it will boot, ask the same details and then ask for a map of which it cant find as there is nothing on the sd card..

Any ideas?

For that model, everything has to be on either the sd card or the internal storage of the unit. Is that how you've set it up?

originally it was set that everything was off the internal memory, when i put the sd card in it copied files onto it, i can load either depending if the sd card is in the slot or not

Well, if the application is on a sd card then the unit boots to the card. you should be getting a 'no maps found' error. That not happening?

As per my original post. It asks me for a map but as there is nothing extra on the card it cant find anything.

If the application is on the sd card without a map on the card, your unit will not function properly. I don't know what it is you are expecting..............

I'm trying to get it back to what it use to be... ie woking without a SD card..

as i said.. I've tried resetting it but it wont acknowledge the reset and still loads my old plash screen and brings up the settings for setting it up which crash and reset the sat nav each time

If you have an Explorer backup of the internal unit's contents or can make one and it includes the map folder, of course, then do so. Then format the internal drive but don't use quickformat. Restore the backup to the unit. Start it without a sd card in it. Do a reset. Start again. Does that help?
