TomTom Model(s)
Expert 7
Good morning, after using garmin for years and years I liked the tom tom interface and how smooth it was on screen but the one problem I have is how do I get all my truck parking etc poi's over to the unit? The device itself is very good indeed but as a professional driver I need to be able to update the unit with poi's that I need. I'm sure the old units back in the early 2000s did this before I swapped to garmin but I can't find any info of how to do it on this new unit. Any links or information would be appreciated. Reagrds

Hi

On GO Expert, it is not possible to install our personal poi.
Hi thank you for the reply. Can I ask why as it's fairly restricted to what is available like parking etc? How regular does the inbuilt database update if you know please?

On the new GPS these are NDS maps and Tomtom has not yet developed the option to add custom points.

How often is the built-in database updated? the database is not often updated.

The fact that "own" poi's can't be added has been a point of criticism since the device's release. And that was well over a year ago! So much for the database update!
Worse I find that the parking spaces on the highways in Europe are not displayed on the device! How should you plan your breaks if you do not get information about the parking spaces?
Incidentally, the device may be fast, but that was it. The NDS maps unusable, the navigation often very faulty, even sometimes unusable. The routing should be looked at carefully before driving. Routet very often completely unnecessary detours (because restrictions are not properly implemented). I could write much more but that's enough!

Oh god!! Should I have stuck to garmin and Basecamp. Garmin worked flawlessly on truck and motorbike for years but the interface was clunky compared to Tom tom but clunky and works over smooth and not showing the simple things like parking spaces for a truck sat nav is ridiculous. You should be able to add things like key fuels/uk fuels sites. These are necessary things when your on the road. I don't want to keep stopping to use my phone and Google when it should be on a £400 unit.
I need a email address to tomtom support for someone to address these issues, otherwise I can see me returning it. My MAN sat nav in the truck gives you parking! Surely it's just a software update.

We're still fighting to get custom POI's added to the Discover/Expert series, but no idea if we will be successful.
The same thing happened on the previous generation, and they did FINALLY (after about 2 years from release) provide that functionality, but not without a lot of noise being made about its absence.

For what it's worth, I still find that the old MapSource program is quicker for me to use than Basecamp if you have a lot of content to work with - if you can still find a copy out there on the Garmin site.

Gas stations and truck special rest areas are already displayed, but not the normal ones along the highway! In the map they are visible, but not in the sidebar! I always have my Pro running on the side. This is the best unit TT has ever made for trucks. This unit can also do poi's!

Note that when S-i-g-g-i refers to his "Pro", there are a number of models that have carried the "Pro" name at TomTom.
The "Pro" model he's talking about is by far and away the best device TomTom has ever released for trucks, cars or anything else for that matter. Bridgestone took over the division of TomTom that produces them. Here's an photo of these great devices should you ever run across one:

I am talking about this professional. TT has officially sold this where Telematics was already given to Bridgestone.

Sorry. Thought you had the awesome one like I pictured. It is known as a "Pro" model, but is also commonly known as the TomTom "Bridge". It's a 7" device built on an Android platform. You can even side load your own Android apk apps. Some models include a front facing camera. You can even include your own custom icons to match your custom POI files ... like the good old days before 2013.

Yes I have read and heard a lot about the Bridge devices. The 6250 I have would be a hammer device with the speed of the Expert. As I said I use it daily next to the Expert, also because I do not trust the Expert!

It's a FAST device, too. Good processor, so fast routing for longer trips. Comes with a nice heavy duty quick release mount, too... needed because it's a bit heavy. It is my preferred windscreen accessory! I use it daily.

I upload poi files to https://mydrive.tomtom.com online, the update the unit via this. Simple enough (I can do it!)
Hope this helps

Hello. I read the characteristics of this device and really liked it. Please tell me which EU stores sell this device? And what is the correct name for the model for trucks? Thank you.

Don't clutter the thread with useless replies. Read the question carefully. You didn't understand anything. And I didn’t address you.
