Tom-tom 550 t&m memory

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have ordered tom-tom 550 T&M heard memory can be an issue for updating? Can I get an SD card to increase memory? Any users have an idea what can be safely deleted before my first use? Thanks for any help

The 550 does not have a slot for a sdhc card, you're limited to the 2 gb internal.

When you get the unit, before doing anything else, make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents.

You can use the Home 2 desktop software (tomtom.com/home) and remove any voices you won't use. Just keep one computer voice (if more are listed) and dump all recorded voices (maybe keep one).

You can gain a bit of space by using Explorer to look at the contents of the unit and dump anything in the licences folder without EN_US in the file name. (actually, you can dump everything..)

Do you know if the backup option (explored or home) is given when the device is connected to the PC? I'm not particularly tech savvy. Will the gps try to run an update when first attached?
