Time to download new map

Does it normally take 4 or 5 hours to download and install a new map using DSL and windows 7.. If so, the XL349TM hardly seems worth it. Or do I just have a defective GPS.

Do you mean an XL340 model? (There is no 349).

Anyway, that model is only usb 1.1 compliant, not 2.0 so that explains part of the slowness in installing.

Are you using a wireless connected computer via a router or a directly connected one? That has some effect as well.....

Yes, XL340TM.

I am connected with a wired ethernet connection. Download time was 1 1/2 hour and install time was 3 1/2 hours. I had an old TomTom and do not remember it taking this long but maybe I have forgotten.

Moot now as all my favorites and preferences are deleted, my computer voice is gone. and it says poor GPS reception. Real piece of junk. It is going back to staples After five hours and two calls to TomTom, I no longer have a working GPS. Free updates are worthless if this is the result. I guess I found out what the catch was, Back to Staples. - the traffic alerts did not work on the first one. Really frustrated. Need to change brands..
