What exactly is text to speech. I know it sounds obvious. Do all TT's have it?
I'm new and ask a lot of questions but, there are a lot of different models. I don't want to make the wrong choice and be dissatisfied.
Thanks,
Mike

All models DO NOT have TTS.

It's when the unit speaks the street name like "Ahead turn left on Main Street" rather than " Ahead turn left"

Now that the new TT 130s (with smaller screen) has the TTS feature, how hard would it be to tweak the circutry and modify the older TT units (with the smaller screens) with TTS? Pipe dream?

I do believe it's only a software upgrade required (voices to be specific). My MIO 230 has TTS and with the MIO Tool you can modify your software (at your own risk). They get into it on the MIO's. They add features and remove features to their hearts content. I downloaded what I need to turn the 230 into a PDA with GPS. If I do it or not is another story.

Software text-tospeech upgrade for Tom Tom One?

My tom tom One is about a year old and does not have Text-to-Speech (TTS) capability. I gave my Garmin Nuvi 360, which had TTS, to my son so I miss TTS very much.

I am willing to pay for an upgrade of my non-TTS One to work like the new TT 130s. Does anyone know if tom tom will offer an affordable upgrade for their existing customers?

As an Electrical Engineer, I would expect that my older TT One has the necessary hardware to do TTS so an inexpensive software upgrade from tom tom could be generate some additional revenue for them while also garnering goodwill from its customers.
