I have a Go730 and a Nokia 6555 phone. The bluetooth connection and hands free operation work fine, but the phone book synch function does not. The 6555 is not on the list of compatible phones, but it's a pretty new phone and other Nokia units are on there. Most will not support tie synch function.

When I key the "get numbers from phone" function, the phone displays an "Initiating Synch" message but it never goes any further.

So presuming the two devices can't perform this function on their own, is there another means of transferring my phone's address book to the TomTom? Nokia has their "PC Suite" software and I can synch the phone to the PC. Is there a way to synch the TomTom to the PC via Home or Explorer?

I put this question to TomTom support and it turns out there is a way. You must create a text file called "contacts.txt" in the "contacts" folder on the TT drive. One line per phone book entry, data structure as follows:

"contact name 1","11231234567"
"contact name 2","11231234567"

You get the idea. A real world entry might be:

"Jenny","8675309"

Spaces in the contact names are allowed, numbers must be no spaces or dashes or whatever.

In my case, I synched my phone to the Outlook Express phone book in Windows, then exported that to a comma delimited *.csv file. I then edited that to get the proper data structure, named the file "contacts.txt" and uploaded it to the TomTom. Cumbersome, but it worked.

It's best not to ask the same question in more than one thread. I replied (and you responded) in the other one.

could you please give more details how exactly did you format data from outlook?

It's pretty much as above. You export the Outlook address book to a comma delimited text (*.csv) file, then edit it in Notepad or whatever, so that the data is in the form given above. One line per entry, name (in quotes), comma, number (in quotes). Then save as "contacts.txt" and put this file inthe "Contacts" folder on the TT drive.

That's pretty much it.

In order to get that to work on mine, I had to eliminate the ".txt" extension so if you try it and it doesn't work get rid of the file extension. ;)

After a little playing around I have found a way to enhance the contacts list a little further. I create each line like this

"Person name/M","+1234567890","MOBILE"

The /M, or/H or what ever is added so that I can find the exact contact number that I am looking for quickly and allows me to derfernciate between Home, Mobile, Work etc. In the last feild, ("Mobile" in this example), actually uses the tt database and tags the associated icon to the entry. By default this feild says "DEFAULT"
