Street names INOP

I currently have a Tomtom XL340-S with the latest U.S., Canada, Mexico maps installed. I have the stock computer voices installed ( Susan, Simon ) When I go to preferences/voice preferences.. I do not get an option for speech nor does the computer voices show up in the voice menu. I used to have these features up until I upgraded my maps.

May I suggest this:
1. Make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents.
2. Remove all the loose files in the root of the unit using Explorer, NO folders or their contents.
3. Download thhe 9.026 TTS application from here
4. Use WinRar to install the application, overwriting existing files as necessary.
5. Disconnect the unit properly from the computer using the Hardware Device disconnect icon and see if the TTS is back.

BUT.................................

If you were experiencing the lack of computer voices using Home's emulator (Operate My Unit), then what you are experiencing is normal. Computer voices don't work in the emulator.

My above suggestion is only if the computer voices are missing when operating your device as a standalone.

Just wondering, is this a common issue with the 9.056 firmware, where it knocks out the computer voices ? I 've been reading other posts were people were having other issues with this same firmware version. I guess new is not always good.

All I know is there is a version out there without TTS.

For whatever reason, some with the TTS model got sent the application not meant for the model.

Dumb, eh?

My tomtomxl
Has the option for street names spoken, but I am unable to check mark it.
I am using a computer voice. I have tried everything. I bought this gps for this reason.
Hopefully someone can help me.

What is the precise model you have.

I no longer have the box.
It says "tomtom XL" on the bottom
It has a 4.3 inch touchscreen.

When I tap on the satelite bars it gives me a "GPS status" screen.

If your model does not show satellite bars on the status bar screen, then tap the bottom right of the status bar (after tapping 'done' on bootup) and the next screen shows a little box with the version number.

I suspect, then that you have a 325 or 330 model of some variation.

When you look at the contents of the unit using Explorer, do you see a Vocalizer folder with stuff in it?

Have you always NOT been able to get textto speech?

Have you tried using Home to download any other computer voices and seen if they work?

i have never tried it before. i just lived with it not doing what it says it will do on the box.
I decided to try it out today.

The only voice I have gotten off the computer is the old pervert from family guy.....that works great.

And when you check voice preferences, the one you selected does say 'speaks street names'??

That feature is not selectable.
it is grey and i cannot check it off.
