TomTom Model(s)
Premium X and 6200
Hi all, think ive been here a few years ago, anyway a big hello.

I contacted tom tom customer services, with a lot of trouble, but here are the problems

1, yesterday switch unit on (Premium x) it said the "Sim card is going to expire" and I need to renew it. On the screen was a QR code and it tells me to use my phone and scan it. So I did this and all I got was "Page not found"

2, Today I switched it on again this time to check its working ok, cant find any problems, but then it pops up a message "IMPORTANT you need to follow the instructions, click back to do this"

There wasn't a back, only an OK, so I clicked the OK and I'm back to the main menu?

Not had a single problem in all the years ive had it, are tom tom trying to annoy me into buying another sat nav?

Anybody know ANYTHING about my messages?

Thanks, wish id taken a photo, keep forgetting to do that ;)

Cheers

Hi
First time I see a message like yours?

Ignore this message as long as you have 2G in your country.
Later, if 2G is no longer available, you can connect your GPS to your phone's Wi-Fi to continue receiving traffic and speed cameras.

Can we assume that the cellular connection has been used regularly in recent history? TomTom will normally only allow the SIMs to expire due to disuse, though sometimes an error is made.

I'm sure 2g is closing down 2033, all that extra money for a stand alone, but Tomtom know nothing, well all the years I've known them, that's how they act anyway

Used every week without problems

All I can suggest is to keep using it as normal, and if suddenly you lose your cellular connection, you'll have to contact TomTom to reinstate it.

But if it is running on 2g, they can't do anything. If 2g does shut down.

How many of you found out thire Tomtom can no longer be used? A lot of models didn't have a memory card slot, just built in memory. Then the latest map was too big to fit the internal memory, Tomtom said to people who were given "lifetime" free updates, that the unit had reached the end of its working life, because the map was too big to fit.

They just don't care, they shut the community forum down because they said 1, much less people visit now and 2, the units don't give problems much these days.

Truth is, so many complaints, bad publicity...

I can't believe how bad they are, removed the ability to add your own poi or get a warning if you drive close to one.. watch videos, and more that I have forgotten.

Sorry getting carried away, with the way they have treated thire customers over the years.

Really gets me that nobody new anything at all about the SIM card warning, and why I got the warning in the first place, something triggered that, then the very next day I get another popup, again unexplained.

not doing this on my 6200 only premium X

Like you say, carry on using, until it shuts down then I can complain, with no response at all from people who have written that code, but have long left the company.

Many more using Google maps on thire phone, remember we did have Google search on one of the models, that's also gone.

What am I doing using a Tomtom, far more powerful on a cell phone, with free Google maps

Have looked at the proposed shut-down schedule for European countries, and you've all got some time to go yet.
We've not fared as well in North America and Aus/NZ. 2G is long gone.

Expected circa 2030, not before 2025
So there is plenty of time before Vodafone switch off 2G

Hi ya all,
In Feb bought a tomtom exclusive. Within 3 months went funny. To date had to prove it went wrong, got sent to different customer service people every other day. Lots of different job numbers. After threats they decided to sent me a kanaka to sent to them for repair. Had to email them to see if they received it. On its way to Rumania? Still waiting to see imwhats they are doing. No update sent at any time!!!!
Have I been scammed????

They are not the company they use to be, always so helpful, customer service via telephone, they "were" the best, when my two units finally go to heaven, I'll be switching to Google maps, even now I'm using it to find things that tom Tom don't have, like every McDonald's around the UK -) Also car Sat Navs are not as bad as they use to be, no more taking me to a café, a d when I get there it's now a housing estate...

We had our own POI, played video movies on it , the 730 was the last of those, then they wanted that pinch screen, which all the phones had, so started from the bottom, that's when everything went very wrong.

Still I had a good few years, started with a Tomtom 300, then every new model after that, in fact I wouldn't have the premiere x, if I new they were dropping that IFTT or what ever it's called, had it switch my heating and lights on, 5 miles away, then they removed it, said not enough people using it.

Now I use Amazon Alexa, to do all those things anyway.

My 6200 is just as good, we all live and learn, I'm not spending anymore on thire outdated gear...
