Starting Direction

Hi guys, quick question? When i turn om my tom-tom one 3rd edition my home destination arrow is always pointed in the East direction. I live on a two way street and most of the time all of my destinations are always Westbound. Is there any way to have the icon face Westward instead of Eastbound when my GPS starts up. Thanks Fellas...

Not until you start to move as the device doesn't have a built in compass it can only get heading data from the GPS signal which needs the device to be moving before it can work out a heading - Mike

In my experience, it remembers which way you were driving when you arrived home last and tries to have you continue in that direction when you depart for your next destination. (so as not to have to do a u-turn.) The TomTom hates u-turns! I guess people don't use driveways in the Netherlands.

I think it is like Mike says. Some times it tries it one way and then the other. I get even funnier stuff with HOME.
When NAVTEQ and Tele Atlas decided last spring to move the coordinates for my street address 6 houses to the west and across the street I used Tyre to put it back to the correct location. Now, some times it wants to move through my and the neighbour to the rear's back yards and take off from his street. Particularly when running in Demo mode.

Just curious. Do you usually arrive home the previous day or whatever - coming from the West - in an Eastbound direction? I bet if you were to do a test - arrive home from the East - in a Westbound direction it would send you out the next day already pointing West. Let us know if you would. Thanks. I have always been curious about this myself.

Nope, always coming from the east.

I don't have my TomTom Go 730 in the house right now to verify this, but if I recall correctly, some where in the Preferences there is a box to check to have the TomTom start up where it left off. See if this box is checked or unchecked.

That option is to start in the same screen you had showing when you turned off the unit. Not start in the same location when you turned off the unit.

Yes, and it is checked. That could have validity. I must try once to Navigate to my house coming from the west.
However, it definitely has no bearing on the times when the 930 wants me go go through the backyard and leave from the street of the neighbour to the rear.

I do think, however, it has something to do with how many satellites are detected at a given time.

You are most likely right. Once I am backed onto the street the direction is correct.

In retrospect I should have pointed out that when I get the odd direction it is at the desk with HOME, where it displays 0 satellites.
