Speed control on XL S

I just got the One XL S and am wondering if I can set it to show the speed limit next to the speed I am going. I had the 3rd gen and it had this (ex 48/55). When I would go over 55, my speed would blinnk red. Primarily I liked to have the current speed limit listed so that I would know what it is. I am not seeing this option on the XL S. I see that I can set an alarm to go off if I go over a speed that I set, but I would really like to have the speed automatically posted. Any ideas? Thanks!

It's on the second page of the options for the Taskbar. "Show max speed next to speed"

Status bar preferences. Page 5 of Preferences. ou'll find the option on the second page of it.

Ok, I was able to find it (although it was on page 3 rather than 5). I checked the box next to Show max speed next to speed, but it is still only showing the speed I am going, not the posted speed. It does the same thing if I uncheck it. Please help.

I believe that feature is also map dependant in that some versions don't have the max speed for roads information and therefore can't display it.

You are correct. My 675 map did not have the max speed feature but my 715 map does.

So what do I need to do?

You have to upgrade your map to at least 7.15, if not 7.20. There is a map sale on now for the latest (7.20) at TT if you are outside the 30 day map guarantee.

On the other hand, it is suspected that come August, version 8 maps will be available for purchase for non x30 units. Along with Navcore 8 firmware, the combo may make non x30 units equivalent to x30 units in functionality.

But, there is NO guarantee that this will happen. Sometimes, it pays NOT to be first in the neighbourhood with the newest toy. :D

Thanks for all of your help. What is the 30 day map guarantee? I just got this unit a week ago. Is there any way to get upgraded to 7.20 at no cost?

Absolutely! In Home --> Tools-->Use Latest Map Guarantee should offer version 7.20.

Unfortunately, this feature doesn't work as well as it should sometimes. Either it might say you have the latest map or it might offer only 7.15. If either occurs, you'll have to call Support to straigthten it out (which you will) but again, in your circumstances, you are entitled to 7.20. Don't accept less.

WOW. I only have version 710 and the update maps option says I have the newest maps. Why doesnt this work right? I have since fired off an email to Tomtom. Is there a faster way to get the newer maps?

Yes. PHONE TomTom. Have a scanned copy of your sales receipt (or fax or photo) you can send. Some report that when they are on the phone with Support and send the document, they see the map made available in the Update while they are still on the phone!

Thank you all for your help. I was able to get the map loaded after calling TomTom, but now I have another question. I am able to get the posted speed next to my current speed, but a bell sounds whenever I go over. Is there any way to disable to bell and still keep the speeds posted?

Yeah..........don't speed :) :)

Not the answer you wanted? :D

Preferences-->Safety Preferences-->Warn when driving faster than speed limit (about the 4th or 5th item on screen). Uncheck it.
