I travel extensively in France during summer and was alarmed to here that the rumour doing the rounds last year has actually become law.

It is from the 4th Jan illegal to use as GPS device to indicate the presence of "Speed Cameras" the French do actually admit that these generate a large revenue for the government.

I understand TomTom are at the moment deleting speed camera locations from the french map when you update your Tomtom but are looking at some sort of alternative safety warning !!!! to comform to an interpretation of the law.

Are there any details of what this will be ?

Has anybody updated already ?.

In reply to your question, I was going to buy up to date maps for my TomTom having been emailed an offer about reduced prices until the end of Jan.

First I had to update generally and one of the downloads was 'Removal Speed Camera France'.

Guess what? I aborted the process and will not be buying any more maps.

Daft eh?

Daft? I'd refer that one back to the Assemblée nationale, not TomTom.

TT is just doing what they felt they were legally obligated to do. It's not like they wanted to pull a popular feature off of units used in France.

You can always untick JUST that one item. I don't see why that should affect whether you buy any more maps or not?

Blimey, touchy lot aren't you.

If you read the post, I wasn't having a go at TomTom, who presumably are obliged to comply with the French regs.

And I wasn't aware I could untick the download.

If I can do this, I will update my maps.

Not touchy at all......Andy was simply pointing out that speed cams are a separate download from maps.

Unfair Discrimination

Tomtom have supplied "Accident Area" warnings where it used to display French safety camera warnings BUT this update is NOT AVAILABLE to owners of TomTom One and other early models! This is discrimination against the very people who helped Tomtom get launched in the first place and as a visitor to France I am now at a disadvantage. I do not wish to buy a later Tomtom as my present Tomtom One does all else that I need - so how about a change of heart by Tomtom and a reward for its early day supporters by making this update available across the board please?

Where have you read (or discovered) that please?
Or do you just mean it's not available if you don't have a current subscription to the camera service?

Of course it's possible that the early models simply don't have the processing power to create the randomised "danger zones" needed to stay on the right side of the law, but I've not seen it announced anywhere.

In answer to your question, I followed a link on the Tomtom site some weeks ago saying which devices would be updated to show the new Danger Zones. My Tomtom One was not included in the list. I am a subscriber to the Safety Camera service.
As Tomtom One is now classed as a legacy device, I am unable to contact support for assistance on current subjects such as Safety Cameras - this is unjust.
Can you tell me please whether Danger Zones for the Tomtom One will be offered in place of the now deleted locations of the French Safety cameras?
Thank you.

Downloading French Danger Zones to a Tomtom One

Can you not manually remove safety camera for France?

I do not see why you are asking this question. Tomtom automatically removed French Safety cameras from my Tomtom One at the last Safety Camera update. They are no longer on my device.
What I want to know is "Why is Tomtom declining to put French Danger Zones on the Tomtom One?".
As I said earlier, us Tomtom One owners helped Tomtom get started in the first place, and we are subscribing to a current service (Safety Cameras) so why will Tomtom not provide us with a download for French Danger Zones? Simple.

here is a link to where I got my information, and you can see that it says: "but not Tomtom One etc . . . "

[Click on "Show me a list of compatible products" in order to view the actual list].

Thanks for the link, much appreciated.

I'm sorry that you won't be able to get the French danger zones info.
I don't like TT's decision to stop supporting older models, but I can sort of understand why they have done it - to save money I guess!
I could also understand it if the unit is simply not capable of the software required to do the randomising of the zones required, but we've no way of knowing that for sure.

By the way, a few of your replies seem to give the impression that you think we are part of TomTom themselves.... We aren't. We're just a bunch of owners like you.
