TomTom Model(s)
One 3rd Edition
It's my second day with a new TT One V3 and this forum rocks. I've already added itinerary planning via the instructions in one of the threads. I have a few questions. I apologize if these have been covered elsewhere. I searched but there is so much info here that it was hard to find.

1- I lost the Help me icon when I added itinerary planning, is there a way to get it back? Did I lose anything else and not notice it yet?

2- Once an itinerary is planned and loaded, is there a way to look at the entire route on the map, I seem to be able to only look at the first leg so far.

3- Is there a way to add my own POI in the One V3? I know I can add favorites, but how about POI categories and items?

4- Is my map less detailed than the other models due to the 1GB memory limitation of the V3. If so, is it possible to eliminate the Canada section and have a fully detailed USA section.

Thanks

* You cannot have both the custom menu and the Help Me! icon on the same custom menu. You also lost the Map Corrections icon. HOWEVER, you do have the option of using a 3rd party program called MenuTT. View Q8 on my FAQ page:
>>> TomTom FAQs <<<

2- Once an itinerary is planned and loaded, is there a way to look at the entire route on the map, I seem to be able to only look at the first leg so far.

*Each point of the itinerary should be marked as a WAYPOINT and not a DESTINATION. If each point in your itinerary is a DESTINATION, the TomTom will only route to the first destination point and then stop you there.

3- Is there a way to add my own POI in the One V3? I know I can add favorites, but how about POI categories and items?

* If you actually use the custom TomTom.mnu file I created in the middle of the following page, I included the MANAGE POIs icon that allows you to do this:
>>> Custom TomTom Menu <<<

4- Is my map less detailed than the other models due to the 1GB memory limitation of the V3. If so, is it possible to eliminate the Canada section and have a fully detailed USA section.

* The USA_and_Canada maps are a little less detailed than the North_America maps. the North_America maps show a few more streams, unpaved roads, and some 2D building outlines in big cities, but the main roads are basically the same. The main thing the 1G is limiting is the number of POIs that are included on the device.

Thanks Birdman. I appreciate the info.

I've installed TTmenu, works like a charm, even in french which threw me for a loop when I saw that. I wasn't sure I had the right webpage.

I also installed your custom menu instead of the other custom menu I had copied from a different thread. I used the one you called "my menu". I'm going to check out your "all inclusive" version next, to see the difference.

Apparently I must have programmed the itinerary wrong, using destinations instead of waypoints, thanks for that clarification. It was my first time using that function and I can't remember exactly what I did. This is actually my first GPS also.

I now have POI management also, thanks to your menu.

My poi.dat file is about 63 MB in size and I have about 92 MB of free space. I could probably free up a little more by deleting Guam and some extra languages. How big is the poi.dat file on the other models with more detailed maps? Maybe I could fit it in. Would it work with my maps or is there more to it than that? Do the other versions have a "North America" map whereas I have a "USA and Canada" map?

Thanks again.

Steve

I copied over the all inclusive menu and I got some unexpected results. I now have a document reader and an icon to turn the screen upside down, but I also have 6 icons for TTmenu, 2 on page 3 of the main menu and 4 on page 4. Actually that's all that's on page 4. I'd like to keep the document reader and screen icon, but lose 5 of the 6 TTmenu icons. How should I go about accomplishing that?

When I open the document reader, there are no documents. If I want to keep some docs on the device, where is the correct place to put them so the reader will see them?

I'm not a programmer, far from it, but I did take a Fortran and Cobal class as required stuff in the 70's in college (I'm old). These menus seem to make sense to this newbie, but I'm confused about the "MENUITEM|TASK_SDK1|" etc. entries, Where are the SDK1, SDK2 etc subroutines these are calling. I never added a document reader app to my unit, how did this function get there? Is it built into NAV7 but was disabled in my V3?

I noticed that TTmenu overwrote my SDKRegistry folder with lower case letters, ie sdkregistry. I thought that was supposed to be case sensitive, yet it still works. Could that affect anything?

EDIT:
I figured some of it out. Got rid of the extra TTmenu icons.....figured out that SDK# is calling plugins from the root....tried to add image browser and multimedia tasks to the mnu file but the icons are greyed out.

Are there any other cool functions I have built in but disabled, similar to the document reader I didn't know I had until I loaded your all inclusive menu?

Thanks

* My custom TomTom.mnu file has several lines for allowing 3rd party apps to display in the menu. If you open the TomTom.mnu file in a text editor 9like notepad) you'll see that for each icon, there is an MENUITEM|TASK_SDK*| where the * is a sequential number.

All you have to do is delete all but the first one (MENUITEM|TASK_SDK1|) of these lines and you'll get rid of all the extra icons.

View my write-up on Q9 below for more details:

* Read my Q1 on the following page. Pay particular attention to the NOTE: at the bottom of my write-up

Thanks Birdman, I appreciate the info and you taking the time to resspond to my questions. I had already figured out and fixed the multiple icon problem after reading your FAQ and thinking about it.

Oddly, I never had the multiple guided tours icon problem described here and on your site.

Actually I've already read that FAQ page and many other pages on your very thorough website, as well as hundreds of threads on this site. It's just that I'm a bit overwhelmed with info and details at the moment and it didn't all sink in at once. Like I said, I'm not a programmer and this is my first GPS that I've only had for 2 days and my first time messing around with Linux code, or any code ever in the last few decades, so it's trial and error for me. And I'm one of those people that jumps right in and messes around with everything and asks a million questions before I know exactly what I'm doing :) I apologize for asking questions that I should have already known, or easily been able to find, the answers to.

When I added multimedia and image browser using
TASK_MULTIMEDIA
TASK_IMAGE_BROWSER
I actually got icons that made sense and looked like "factory" icons, but they were greyed out, am I missing the required hardware, or is the software still disabled somewhere?

I renamed the SDKRegistry back to upper/lower case instead of the all lower case that TTmenu had renamed it and it didn't seem to matter either way. Does it matter and I missed something?

Thanks,
Steve

Never apologize for asking questions...that is the only way people learn and how society will grow. I actually admire your courage to jump in so quickly, and you obviously have caught on in a flash.

The two functions you are trying to use will not work on your 3rd edition (or my ONE LE). I believe there is missing software within the operating system itself that is not allowing these to function.
