Does anyone have a backup file for the TomTomXL Canada 310 N14644. My son deleted mine and my device is unusable. Please send to (e-mail address removed). It would be greatly appreciated.

None of that "Canada 310 N14644" is relevant to the model number. That's all regulatory agency numbering.

Connecting your device to Home, if the system really is empty, should cause Home to offer you at least the operating software. Your bigger problem will be your map / map folder, which is keyed to your specific device. If you never took the time to make a backup of your device as a whole, or at least the map folder, you're in some real trouble ... you'd need to buy a new map for your unit, unlesssss... you have a backup you don't know about.

Did you take advantage of the latest map guarantee (for the freshest current map) when you first bought the unit? Or did you ever buy a map update for your unit? If yes to either of those questions, do you still have access to the PC that was used with either of those were done? If so, there's a good chance your map can be recovered from your PC once you have the application restored to your unit, and we'll explain how once you've replied.

Nuts. Afraid so, unless you can beg and grovel sufficiently to talk a Tech Support agent into pushing a new map for your account. It's rare, but it has been known to happen, and it's certainly worth a go before you plunk down money for either a new map or a new unit.

As the XL has aged a bit, another consideration is a new unit with a lifetime map subscription, but without knowing your use model (and hence, the features that are most important to you), it's hard to know precisely which current model to suggest.

I think maps are going for around US$60 at the moment. That would make a great down payment on a new unit.

Tech Support can be called at 866-486-6866, Mon-Fri: 8:30am - 7pm EST
Sat: 9am - 6pm EST

Have you started building the dog house for your son yet? If not, I've got some pretty nifty plans for larger ones I could send to you.
