This may apply to other TomTom models too, but I learned it the hard way with my GO300. To do a soft reset on my GO300 a straightened paper clip WILL NOT DO IT. This is because the paper clips are too thick for the tiny reset hole in the GO300s. I had to borrow a sewing needle from my wife. I was pushing down on the hole with a paper clip for 30+ seconds counting 1001, 1002, ... etc and nothing happened. And then I noticed that the paper clip was not penetrating the hole. The sewing needle worked like a charm and in about 2 seconds - didn't have to wait 30 seconds.

Yes that's true, you need to watch out for the thickness of the needle. I use the smaller type safety pins, and the needle is thin enough to fit in the reset hole. You should be able to feel the reset button depress as you slide it in.

I personally never had a problem using a safety pin to soft reset my unit.
