I have been using my TomTom One XL for about 6 months now and I LOVE it! Now that winter is here (in Detroit, MI) I'm thinking it would great if I could get some trailmaps installed on it.

Anyone done this... or have a recommendation on how I could?

Thanks!

Doug

Winter's here, in Detroit? Why, yesterday I went out in a t-shirt without a jacket... must be a different Detroit :D

Its spring here in New England...we had Thunder Storms today. I missed the entire ski year !!!!

I'm thinking about trying to accomplish this using "Map Overlays". I've found a few places where I can download bmp/jpg images of the trailmaps.

Has anyone done anything similiar, or have any pointers that may save me some time?

Thanks again!

Been working with this in the "browse map" and with the 3rd party software "Offroad". So far all I can say is it is not as easy as you might think! TT has a "snapping" feature built into their nav software that wants to "snap" you onto the nearist known road. When you are not on a road it sometimes gets "confused" and shows you in the wrong place (useually less than 50 yard error). I'm still playing with the settings and map overlay sizes (how much zoom and where to detail more). It does work for the most part, but I would not count on mounting your TT to the bars of a snowmobile and hitting the trails! If you get lost it will most likely get you home (sooner or later), but it is way too slow (at least my TT ONE XL with it's 266mz processor) to use for offroading. It is also too hard to see at a glance what you need to know to make desisions while riding (at least for an old curmudgen like myself).

Ok, thanks!

I'm not sure the "snap" problem will be too big a deal as most of the snowmobile trails are on unplowed roads. There are some areas where the trails cut through fields and parks, but as a general rule, there aren't too many turns to worry about there.

My thought for this was basicallly so that I wouldn't have to read all the signs at the trail heads to figure out which one to take. I'd be happy just to slow down, look at the TT for a sec and then get moving again.

I'm gonna keep tinkering with it and see what I can get going. I'll keep you updated!!
