Go 720
The other day I was driving to work with my TT720 mounted on my dash (it's illegal to mount on windshield in Minnesota). I had it plugged in through the cigarette lighter and I also had my ipod hooked up to it through the ipod cable and was listening through the FM transmitter. As I was pulling into a pit stop I saw smoke coming from my 720. I quickly unplugged everything and turned it off. I smelled burning plastic and the smoke appeared to be coming out of the speaker are as that is the only opening in the TT.

Even as it was smoking it didn't appear to affect functionality. I completed my trip with my 720 off.

On my way home I turned it back on and it and I didn't notice anything wrong with it. I let the battery run down and then reconnected cables to it. I don't seem to have lost functionality (I haven't tried bluetooth since the smoking). I'm still concerned about something happening to it. Anyone else have this happen to them or hear of this happening to anyone? Maybe a extra piece of plastic in the casing that burned? Other ideas?

Perhaps internally a piece of wire was too close to a hot board component or something. Definitely not normal and shouldn't have happened something's not right. I've used mine for the exact same function and had no problems. If you purchased it recently I'd exchange it for a new one at the store.

Scary! Definitely not normal. I would try to exchange it or if it's too late for that, contact TT support and have them swap it out for you.

Quick rule of thumb...if it smokes, return and get a new one. Not worth it going bad after the warranty is up.

i have heard that on older models the power cord would get hot and sometimes start smoking ,but sounds like this is not the case.
