Sluggish GPS On Screen Map Updating

I have a Tomtom One 2nd edition. I added a few POIs to my unit and I noticed afterwards the GPS seems a little bit sluggish when it loads the on screen map. Prior to loading any POI, the map was real time meaning, the car moved a few feet, the map would move (update)at the same time. Now there is a 3-4 second delay in updating my location on the GPS.

Anyone else have this issue?

Probably is taking more time to render the image with the POIs showing up on the screen - especially if you are using 3rd party .bmps with the POIs you added. And this is doubly true if there are a lot of those icons in the area (like Tim Hortons POIs here... There's one almost on every corner! LOL)

The only time I turn on POIs is when I may be interested in finding something. Otherwise I turn them off - and I only turn on the ones that I will ever be interested in (like I don't need to know where Churches, Airports or border crossings are - I'm not religious, there is only one airport that I care about, and I know where that is and there are no border crossings in Nova Scotia... :) )

How do you turn them off? I have quite a few POIs only b/c i'm interested to seeing them available on my GPS. I think its a neat feature.

I read somewhere else that if you limit your visible POIs to three or less, that will keep you running smoothly:)

3 or less? Bah! lol Too little!

I have a number of POIs that I can't turn off- they are some of the ones that came with the TomTom, but do not show up on my POI list. Anyone ever had this happen to them? As far as I can tell, it is the ATM, Car Repair, Amusement Park, Pharmacy, , Ice Skating Rink, Pool, Marina, and Library. Yet I can turn on and of stuff like gas stations, restaurants, etc. Any ideas?

EDIT- Looks like it only shows so many POIs. I deleted some categories I added, and the missing ones showed up on the list. Is there any way around this? Could I at lest select which POIs are hidden?

Browse Map -> Options -> POI -> select the POI you want. This only works for the built in POI, though.

There is also, under preferences, a button to just turn off ALL POI. I have a custom menu with that button on my 2nd page of the main menu so it's pretty simple to turn them on and off, depending on my needs at the time. When you want them back on, the button changes to Show POI... It then shows all the POI that you have selected.

I'm not sure how to turn off custom POIs, as I don't have any currently on my unit - any that I've added, I've made map correction and added the custom POI to the default POIs and shared them on MapShare.

When mine was new, I used to think the same thing, but I'd rather that my map was quick and accurate, besides, they're easy to turn on and off, and if you ask for a nearby POI, it will still find them even though they are hidden.

The custom POIs should show up in the checklist
