slow updates

When sitting at the "getting Updates Automatically" screen, it takes between 4 and 5 minutes before it lets me make the selection whether to update the unit itself or the SD card. So, i figure something is not right inside the unit, and it's time for a restore....

So, I tried to "reset factory settings" using the 920's screen. It tells me that I will lose all of my itineraries and a host of other things, and i have no problem with that. But, after the reset is done, I still have all of the downloaded voices I've added, and all of the custom color schemes and icons that I've added.

I'd like to return the unit to the way it was when I purchased it, but I don't want to have to reinstall the latest maps that I've added. I don't mind having to re-install all of my car icons, voices, color schemes and such. I just don't want to have to contact TT for them to bring my unit up to the latest map (my unit was purchased shortly after the 920s came out.

Is there some way to get it back to factory fresh, but retain the current maps?

Sure.......restoring to factory defaults will NOT wipe out your current maps, Andy. It will wipe out all your customized settings involving stuff like your language, info on your status bar, and a bunch of other things you set when you first got your unit.

But, if you are concerned, simply copy your map folders (NA and WE, I guess) to the computer using Explorer. ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

Now, restore to factory defaults........

As I said, your maps will still be there as they were before but, just in case there was a problem, you can always copy the maps back to the unit........

HAVING SAID ALL THAT..............

I'm not sure restoring to factory defaults will cure the lag time for Home to select between sd and internal for updates. May I suggest the following first:

1. Do a pin reset. The only data lost may be the time needing resetting.
2. If resetting doesn't help the lag, try downloading the Clear flash tool found here. No data will be lost at all.

If the above doesn't help, then you can go for the factory reset. My only thought (and I may be off base here) is that perhaps the unit is just slow recognizing the existence of a sd card in the unit. Is the card a sdhc card?
