How come at the bottom of my TomTom there is a little sticker that say no SD card needed? i only have about 57megs left on what I have now. How do I go about getting more room for it then?

There is generally a dummy card in the slot. A card is NOT needed if you do not run out of room. But getting a card is an option so that you can store more maps or poi files or more likely, mp3 or photos or even videos (with 3rd party software).

If you get a card, you will want to create folders on it that are named the same as in internal memory (upper/lower case matters). So to put mp3 files on the card and find them, they must be in a folder called mp3. If you want to add poi to the card, they would go into a folder that has the same name as your primary map folder in internal memory.

You may not NEED a sd card but you more than likely will WANT a sd card (maps are getting larger and larger, for example).

Peel off the sticker. You may find a dummy piece of plastic in the slot. If so, remove it. A 4 gig sdhc card works well in a 720. Make sure it's formatted for fat 32.

A nice thing about x20 and x30 series of tomtom's is that they see the memory card's storage as **additional** memory to the internal 2 gigs; no need to copy the operating system to the card to get the 720 to recognize it.

TomTom's official position seems to be that the 720 does not support SDHC cards (ie, max of 2 GB). Just want to make sure that you are successfully using a 4 GB SDHC in a TomTom Go 720.

Thanks for confirming.

I too am using an SDHC 4gb card. Made by A-Data. No issues so far. Running newest maps and all.

It was my first foray into TomTom "modding" as far as getting a more updated map and such, worked like a charm.

How do you format it for fat 32? Thanks.

Many of the 4 gig sdhc cards are already formatted for fat32 but if you place the card in a card reader and use Explorer, an option when you navigate to the external storage (the sd card) by right clicking (if I remember correctly) is Format and then there are options for fat 16 or fat 32. (something like that, anyway).
