does it matter what SD card you use on a Tomtom ONE, i tried putting a 512 from my digital camera in there and it said to take it out, is that cuz there are pictures on it?

unless I am wrong you cannot add memory to this unit, the 1gm is self contained with no ability to expand. This is one drawback I knew of before buying it, the other was the mass defect issue I will be faced with fedex delivers, lol

The internal memory on the TT and the SD card slot are independant of one another. You can only boot from one or the other. Generally, users insert a 2Gb card or bigger into the slot and have more detailed maps and custom poi's, addtional software funtionability, etc., on the card. The TT will boot from the SD card when properly formatted, and the TT application plus maps are loaded to the card via either windows explorer or TTHome. To recap, you use one or the other and the SD card has to be big enough to hold the application and the desired maps.(At least 1Gb.) Hope this helps

you can format the sd card in Windows explorer while the Tom Tom is connected to your pc. When the SD card is in it will have the same drive letter that the TT had if it was not in so make sure it's in before you do anything and you dont see all your TT files under that Drive letter. You could also do this via a SD card reader , from what i hear you should format as FAT and not FAT32/NTFS.
