i just bought a 720, what kind of sd card should i buy? i will not be putting any mp3's on it, just map and tomtom goodies.

2GB or 4GB ?
BRAND?
SD OR SDHC ?
CLASS ?

Assuming you are running the latest Navcore you can use anything up to and including 32GB SDHC cards, make sure the card is high speed though or you might find the device rejects the card and refuses to use it, for SDHC I use 8GB and 16GB Class 6 cards in my devices (32GB are too costly at the moment) - Mike

Yep. for example, I have class 4 SanDisk sdhcs which purportedly is 15 mb transfer per something.. ;)

And I have a Transcend class 6 which has a higher transfer rating.....forget what it is.

Don't get a class 2.

There is plenty of information about card capacity, formats and speed on This Page, get the best you can afford but avoid the slower cards as the device might reject them - Mike

do i actually need one?

several people have told me that the internal memory is more than enough space for just maps and tomtom related stuff. i will not have any music or pictures on the unit.

if so, whats lowest class i should get? anything higher than a class 2?

You're also getting advice to your posts at gpsreview.net.

Get a class 4. It'll work.

Your right

i will take advice from anyone who has this unit and has experience with it. money is tight right now so if i do not need a card i will hold off.

Well, I have this unit and I gave you a suggestion.

While life would be easier with a card, you probably don't need one at the moment.

confused on memory card again

i just got my unit and the latest USA map says its 2GB. isnt internal memory only 2GB ? i was told previous that i should be ok with internal if i was using maps and POI'S and voices,etc... no music or pictures. should i now get a card?

the version says: north america 2gb v. 8.30
download: 1588.6 mb

so should internal be enough or no?

More than once I have said:
  • Everything should fit in internal
  • Even so, your life will be easier with a 4-gig sdhc card

There is no point repeating myself......again.
