Screen Mount

Hi Newbie here.

I have a suction screen mount for my OneXL. It is probably about 4 yrs old now, but has not been heavily used, I only attach it on average 12 - 15 times a year.

Recently, it has started to fall of the screeen even without the tomtom attached to it.

I've tried ensuring glass (and mount) are as clean as I can make them, but after 10 mins or so, it just drops off.

Are there any tricks to help, or do they run out of suction after a while?

Thanks

Colin

Welcome to TTF, Colin.

I guess mounts are like me.............just dry up with old age

Anyway, supermod mikealder is UK based. Look for him to appear in this thread with suggestions (though I'm pretty sure he likes Brodit mounts).

If you don't see a post by him in 24 hours, just pm him.

This was written around the One Third Edition but is equally applicable to the One XL as the mount is very similar, the ONE XL mount will fit the Brodit solution and render the useless suction cup redundant

First off you will need a Pro-Clip to suit your vehicle, there are loads to choose from, and the Brodit TomTom Ball which, in this case was salvaged from an x40 Brodit Mount, but a Brodit/ TomTom style ball is now available under the part number of 533091 directly from Brodit/ ProClip, here the Brodit "Ball" is attached to the Pro-Clip sat next to the standard TomTom One Third Edition windscreen mount:

Turn your attention to the rear of the Windscreen sucker mount which will reveal two small Phillips head screws:

Remove the two screws and prise the rear ball retaining collar away from the ball, it shouldn't need much pressure to release:

Pull the PND shoe off the ball which lets you also release the rear ball retaining collar:

Fit the retaining collar to the Brodit ball on the ProClip and set aside the windscreen sucker as this picture shows all that you need to finish the conversion:

Fit the PND Shoe and secure the rear retaining collar using the two screws removed earlier, don't over tighten the screws as they only need to be secured to prevent the shoe from moving due to vibration in the vehicle:

The One Third Edition mount attached to the Brodit ProClip in my Ovlov, a solid mount with no vibration and it won't fall off:

Finally a picture with the device in place:

Doesn't take long to modify once you have the bits, including installing the ProClip the entire task took under ten minutes - Mike - Mike

Wow. Thanks to both of you for such prompt, full, and helpful responses.

I've printed off the Brodit instructions to read tomorrow (just off out now).

So I'll read in more detail later.

Once again, many, many thanks, it really is much appreciated.

You anywhere near Blackpool, Colin?

Mike's been known to do the mechanical work for a mate over a pint at the local pub! :D

Unfortunately not, I'm in chilly Edinburgh. But his football team (soccer) just had a great result so he should be happy.

720 mount is junk

The mount that came with my 720 is a poor design.
The suction is short lived. To many times I would find
my TomTom on the floor or seat of the car.

A friend bought a 730 and I noticed the mount was different.
It looks like a circular wheel that turns creating a super
suction. I have mounts for other devices that have a small
arm you move from one position to the other that causes
a suction so strong you can't remove it until you move
the lever.

I am getting another mount.
