TomTom Model(s)
720
I just got a 720 and first thing I did was hook it up to TomTom home and updated everything and it says I have the latest map but when I type in my address it says it is not a valid address. How do I check to make sure my north america (USA really) map is the latest? Even so, My house is like 30+ years old and the address has been the same the last 5 years I have lived here. lol

Any ideas? I know a few people with other brands of GPS units and they can find my house address on theirs.

I would post my address so other can try but not so sure I want to do that in a public forum.

Anyone have any ideas? So far this is the only thing that is frustrating the hell outta me.

Very interesting. My House in Vermont is about 35 years old. The TomTom finds A house with my number, but it is about 10 houses off of where I physically am ;) Therefore, it wouldn't surprise me if the map doesn't have your address.

Feel free to send me a private message with your address and I'll try to type it in mine.

To find the map version, click on the lower RIGHT side of your main navigation screen (the blue area where the speed and travel time, etc are shown).

In the next screen, you will see a little square box on the lower right that shows your firmware version.......click on that box and the next screen will tell you details about the MAP version and the TomTOm Application version your unit has.

Birdman, PM sent. :)

Here is a screen cap of my unit info screen.

As a followup, his address truly does NOT exist.

I suggested he contact TomTom so they know about it for future updates.

To solve his immediate issue, I suggested the following:
* At his home, turn on the TomTom and wait for it to synch with the satellites
* Once synched, go in an edit his HOME address and select "CURRENT LOCATION"

At least he'll have the correct lattitude/longitude stoed as his home address.

Thank you for the help. I went and stood at the end of my driveway and let it update and then set current location as home. It really weird that my whole neighborhood/street has all invalid addresses. The street shows up correctly on the map but the house numbers are all invalid as I tried a few of my neighbors address also.

Just shoot them an email then letting them know the problem then?

Yup, I would just send them an email noting the numbering issues on your street.

At least now, wherever you are, you can NAVIGATE TO....HOME and it'll take you right to the end of your driveway.

Your map version (710) is three versions old. Yous said you "just got" your 720 - new, refurbished, or used?

If other then used, you may be eligible for a one month map guarantee. That would get you map version 810 with all the newer features that work with it and application versions 8.xxx.

If used from a site like eBay - you of course would not be eligible.

Bought it used from my brother and he has had it at least 6 months or better so looks like I will have to deal with it and later when I get the spare money get the new map. Kinda dumb that you pay 3-4 dollars for a GPS unit then after 30 days pay over a hundred dollars for a current map. :(

Looks like I will be on the old map for a while.

As posted elsewhere, with the ?2008 Navteq and Tele Atlas maps my street address has been moved 100 yards to the West.

For me the easiest way to make corrections is to use Tyre.
My home is in my own POI category.
Open the POI with Tyre > Edit > Show in Google maps then drag the POI to its exact location.
Since Tyre keeps the address text separate from the actual coordinates, the typed address can be called anything.
I don't call my home Home in case I loose the GPS to an unsavory character.

Well, I have email TomTom about my problem 3 or 4 times now and as you can see by my sig that I have the latest NavCore and maps and my address still does not show up. My house address is 7862 bu my tom tom says it will only go as high as 1999.

Oh welll, I have had it set by location so its all good. Annoying though as I had a friend with a tomtom as well that couldnt input my address so I had to give him direction over the phone. What a pain cause he ended up still getting lost. LoL

That's an error in the mapping.

You could have given your friend the long/lat coordinates for your house and have him navigate that way.

I didnt think of that at the time. Is still annoying though that as far back at me having 7.10 maps my address has never been an option. LoL

I tried emailing them again. Hope I hear something this time.

You could have just tapped Where am I? and sent him the corresponding coordinates from your house.
If that is not available you can get the coordinates from Browse map or tapping the satellite bar, the question mark and taken them from there.

Report it in mapshare as an "other error" and report it on mapinsight.teleatlas.com

It appears that Tomtom is catching up on the mapshare backlog as map 840 was the first time they made a significant dent in correcting my errors. Hopefully the turnaround time for these reports will be quicker.
