Roads are dark grey

In the last month or so, I have noticed that all the roads come up in a dark grey shade when I zoom in. The result is I cannot read the road names. The rest of th map looks OK. Previously the roads used to be in a nice light beige shade and, road names were easy to read when zoomed. I have tried all sorts of settings, but with same poor result. Any suggestions?

Is your icon that indicates your current location also grayed out?

No, the icon showing the car location is a nice blue shade.
