A friend bought a new 720 and when he turns it on all he gets is a red x. Tried updating with Home and all - Home says it is up to date, tried the paper clip reset. Nothing seems to get past it. Any thoughts?

The red X signifies the unit can't detect the operating system files. If the unit is new, he should simply return it to the place of purchase as being faulty. No point trying other things that someone has to try when the unit is past the return date.

He called TomTom support and they had him delete the operating system via Home (I wasn't there to see it, so not sure what steps were involved.) and then Home reloaded the operationg system and all works now.
