I just have to do a small reality check. I received my TomTom on Tuesday. I have not been able to check for updates due to the Internet Server Error problem.

I've read here that this comes up a lot. ... but ... I am just ... well... could it really be down for three days? Is that even possible?

Is it?

Anything is possible with their servers. Having said that, I just did an update for mapshares and gsp quickfix here with no problem. At what point are ou getting the server error?

And you may want to click on the 'back' button when you see the error. Sometimes the update proceeds properly then.

Here's what happens...

I plug in the tomtom, the app comes up, the "Getting Updates Automatically" comes up with the Loading bar. About 30 seconds in, I get an error, "The following problem occurred. You can continue, but functionality may not be available. The Internet server had an internal error. It may be a temporary problem. Please try again later."

I click "Back," which takes me back to the Updates screen. If there are new Mapshare items to get (or ones to upload), I will see them here and I can "Update and Install."

Help?

(P.S. The application crashes on me at least once per day. I am in Vista 32bit.)

Home has been known not to get along with Vista very well.

Here's another trick to try, posted by a forum member here some time ago. It may work.

As soon as you see the Home software showing the update progress bar, minimize Home to the task bar for a few minutes. Honest. When the screen's restored, it may dl the items.

Under Vista, I get this same message if I update TTHome from my non-admin user account....If I swap over to my admin account and update my TT once from there...it then works correctly on my non-admin account (until I get the next TTH update). Did you install or update TTH from a non-admin account?

Oh I wish it did! :D Nah. Tried it a couple of times. :)

No, it's an Admin account, though UAC is still on.

I could try uninstalling and reinstalling. Maybe that would work? But is there a process to this so that I can be sure it's completely gone?

It's never really worked right. The very first time I launched it, it asked me to signup for service. When I registered my username and new password, it crashed. So, it's always been a bit troublesome.

Is it more stable on a Mac? I have a MacBook I could run it on...

Did you D/L TT Home form the internet to make sure you have to most current version? Not that it WILL fix your problem but it's worth a try.

Sure, I could do that.

But doesn't the autorun from the device download the latest version?

Can someone tell me what version they're running? At least I can compare. :)

even if you have the most current version I'd try a unistall/reinstall or even re-registering for a new username as it sounds like your profile may be corrupt .
