I'm looking at buying a TomTom RDS-TMC receiver for my Start 50. Reading reviews it seems their effectiveness depends on the TMC reception in a given region. I travel, primarily, around Oxfordshire, Bucks and Berkshire. Does anyone have experience of the reception there and what roads it will pick up traffic information for?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy

You've asked the right question -- you would really need to find someone who drives in your specific area to find out how good the RDS system works there.
Even in areas with good coverage, the limitations of RDS mean that only the most major roads are included, and the resolution isn't nearly as tight as 'Live' traffic systems. That's all because the amount of data that RDS can handle is a bit limited by today's standards.

Where I live the traffic does seem to be detected on some small back roads however that is in bath and sometimes in bristol so it could be diffrent for you!
