QuickGPS Fix Not Updating on My 720

Hi Gang:

Would someone please help me troubleshoot WHY my 720 no longer updates for that 7 day satellite location file? Per my post a few days ago, I recently "recovered" my device back to operating condition... but something ain't right with this one update.

I'm guessing this problem has a "fix" somewhat related to the process for manually installing the current map, ie, creating a folder on the device, unzipping a file on my computer, then moving that file over to the device. I'm hoping one of the experts or moderators can help me out. Thanks, in advance! >;-)

Try this. Use Explorer to look at the contents of the unit. Delete everything you find in the ephem folder.

Next, again using Explorer go here:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\ephemeris

and delete any sub folders you see in there.

Then, connect to Home and see if a new quickfix file gets downloaded.

Just FYI... after your instructions, the "Home" software indicated that the file was downloaded and installed. However, the device needed to be restarted before it actually started "using" the data.

i have 2 tomtom 740 live units. the first one will update the quickgpsfix but the second unit will not. i'm using the same computer to update both units. is the tomtom home only updating one gps unit and thinks the other one is updated because it sees the subfolders in the the ephemeris folder? the computer does not seem to create a separate folder for each unit.

i tried erasing the subfolders in the ephemeris, but the second unit is still not allowing me to update the gpsquickfix. i also erased the files (but not folder) in the ephem folder. any other thoughts?

also, i'm trying to decipher the serial numbers to see which is the new unit. how do you decipher the serial number for the date of manufacture? the first unit is WR43xx, the second unit is WR73xx. which is newer? the 73xx?

Connect the 740 not getting the gps update to the computer. Use Explorer to delete anything found in the ephem folder.

Then, go here:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\ephemeris\

and delete any sub-folders found there.

Connect to Home and a new gpsquickfix file should be downloaded.

not getting the error message anymore, but there is no gpsquickfix file found on my unit (tomtom home does not show it) and i'm
stil not getting it to prompt me for gpsquickfix update...

got it to work by re-installing the app 8.371 cab files from your previous link on gpsreview (thanks dhn). and thanks canderson, andy_p, and mvl!

previously, the unit had the app 8.371 installed by tomtom home. wonder if that corrupted the installation somehow?

both units seem to work now with quick satellite acquisition by having the system/boot-up files on the internal and the map on the sd card. satellite acquistion is impressively quick. booting up from the class 6 micro sdhc card seems to slow down the satellite acquisition. very glad to have access to the internal files and customize everything to just how i want it.
