hi everyone, i just bought a brand new TomTom One XL S today, im very impressed with the product and the functions it offers. Ive already had plenty of fun with the extra voice package that i downloaded.

But the main reason why i bought this one over the others was because i was told by the sales that this particular model can read out the street/road names, along with the directions. It will be good to hear "Turn left onto main street" instead of just turn left and turn right. Problem is that i dont know how to activate this option, and also i will be bringing this back to South Africa with me, does anyone know where i can download the map? and how do i load it on my tomtom?

Thanks in advance, Merry Christmas & Happy New year to everyone :)

okay, i found out the reason why it wont work, looks like i need to download a new voice file which is roughly about 45mb, only then it will say the street name along with the directions, but the problem now is that i dont have enough space on my tomtom to install a 45mb voice file, is it possible for me to plug in an SD card and increase the memory space?

It should be loaded with a TTS (text-to-speech) voice already, one appropriate to your country (English if you bought it in the US). You just select a 'computer' voice from the 'change voice' menu.

You would only have to install a TTS voice if you wanted one in another language, at which point you can delete the TTS language you don't need.

You could also try deleting the normal voices in the languages you don't need. That will gain you approx 1mb per voice.

I think that you can buy a Southern Africa map through TomTom HOME. Check TomTom's website for details.

It is possible to insert an SD card to give you extra space, but you also need to copy everything from the internal memory to the SD card as well as it can't use both. It is one or the other.

i got a 2gb SD card, i will give that a shot later tonight. And i tried to look for South African map, but no luck with that.

As for the TTS system you mentioned, it doesnt come with the TomTom i bought, i had to go online and look for it. and since its 40mbs, i cant fit the new TTS package in the tomtom.

Suggest you download new XL*S manual(PDF) from TT web site. Will be useful.

I did, but it not helping me, it doesnt say anythign about TTS.

i managed to move everything from the tomtom to the SD card, seems like its working now, but now the GPS system is lagging quite badly..

what am i doing wrong here? i moved everything out of tomtom, into a new folder under windows, restart it, plug the SD card in the tomtom, and move everything from the folder into the SD card and then restart the device again.
