Hello everyone, i've been doing some searching on the internet for a tomtom device. I've been reading a lot about the 720, which has navcore 7 and mapshare. I've also been looking at Tomtom ONE XL.

Now strictly from a navigation point of view (meaning excluding MP3,FM transmitter, text-to-speech, etc capabilities) is there any real difference between the 720 and the XL besides the navcore app version?

Does anyone know if Tomtom releases free navcore version updates for older machines? If so, then if tomtom releases navcore 7 for older machines such as XL will it essentially be the same navigation device as the 720? I just feel like i'm missing something here...

also, does anyone know if mapshare comes along with navcore 7 or if it's a separate module that can be installed independently?

The difference for me is $350 and $500.

thanks.

Hello and welcome

The 720 comes with the new maps.
The Navcore 7 will be available for all units some time in the Fall.
The Mapshare feature will only work for users with the new maps 7.####

the XL is pretty much a ONE with an 4.3 screen.
You can not do handsfree with the ONEXL.

I think the best way to know is what would you like to do with the GPS unit?

If 150$ is too much for you, then go for the ONE - be sure that it has the 6.75 map. Don't buy it on eBay.
Remember that the ONE has a weaker CPU, less Ram - so don't expect to tinker much with it. As you said, just strictly for Navigation, it's a fine unit.
Price 350$ is rather expensive, even in Canadian $.

I would have to agree with Pedro in that it depends on what you want. If you don't want all the bells and whistles then the ONE XL is the right one for you.
