Question about new TomTom 140-S

I just got my new TomTom today and have been getting familiar with some of it's features. One thing that I noticed right away is there's no sound whenever the screen is touched. No tone, click, chime or anything. I like a tone to confim that I'm actually touching the screen when navagating through the menu.

Is there a place to enable this feature?

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

The Garmin and Magellan that I lconsidered both had that feature. I thought TT had it too. Really doesn't matter though.

I'm really impressed with all the different settings and features this 140-S has. I still have a lot to get used to.

You also won't HEAR the tomtom say 'recalculating' as you would with a Garmin. You see on the map the words that the route is being recalculated, though.

Since I received my new TT today do you recommend doing a backup and then update everything or wait awhile before doing anything?
I've read on here where some people lost some things while attempting an update. I don't want to fix something if it's not broke.

ABSOLUTELY make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents. Ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

I also have a 140S. I'm sure you will love it!

The maps and software that came on the unit are the latest. The only things that would be updated at this point would be Map Share corrections and QuckGPSFix data. Both are worth getting.

It is extremely important to backup your unit.

When you do connect via the Home software, be sure and click the "Device" menu at the top and then "Disconnect Device" after your update is complete.

Thanks guys. I'm in the process of backing up and updating my TT now. Hopefully everything will go smooth.

That went well. The TT is now backed up and updated from the website.
I'm a noob to TomTom. Anybody have any special instructions or tips for this model?

That is silly........if that were the case, you'd never be able to update a map, would you?

Just remember to make an Explorer, not Home, backup prior to a major update, like a map or application. (and another one after).

Also, some find problems downloading a large file (like a map) using a wireless rather than a directly connected computer).

Most have no problems with updates for their units.

It is true that many(most?) 140S owners could not install either of the initial release of the last two updates (830 and 835) of the Canada/US/Mexico maps. At least in my case I had to restore from a backup copy.

TomTom did (after two weeks or so) post a revised update that could be loaded.

Hopefully, they will do better with the next update.
