Procedure to upgrade to a larger memory card on a GO 300?

Hi,

Does anyone know the procedure to upgrade to a larger memory card on a GO 300?

These models have the system and maps on the card. There is no internal memory.

They have a 120MB card in from the factory formatted with FAT16. They're reported to take up to 2GB cards.

Is it as simple as just copying all the files across to the new card on this model, or do you have to use the HOME software.

I tried that using a 8GB card formatted using FAT32, and then again on a 2GB partition using FAT16, as the original card was FAT16. I can see the progress bar moving left to right on load and then the red hand logo but I get a black screen after that. I think it's something to do with the card size. I've read elsewhere that these devices can only see 2GB cards, so I've ordered one. Will have another go when it arrives.

Yes, 2GB SD (vs. uSD) cards can be hard to find these days, too.
Your GO 300 has no internal storage to speak of - it's all there on the SD card, so do be careful with it! I'd be sure to copy its entire contents over to some nice little niche on my PC for safekeeping.

Your bootloader only supports little cards the 300 has bootloader perhaps you have a low bootloader you you ware talking about a 8gb card

It’s not that simple there is more to do your bootloader should support lager cards more than 2gb

There was no firmware created for a 300 that supported > 2GB cards.

Is the card a sdxc or sdhc could also be a problem

Tomtom no longer distributes recent maps for the GO 300, what's the point of having a larger SD card.

The GPS works, I won't touch the GPS, that will avoid everything crashing.
