Problems With New tomtom

I just bought a tomtom one v4 today and brought it back to my place. After about 20 minutes of using it, it froze up so I looked on the tomtom website about what I should do. It reccomended that I do a soft reset so I did. Now, when I turn it on all that happens is it takes me to a screen with a picture of my tomtom on it with an indication to plug it into a computer. So I hooked it up to my computer (I have a PC and am running Vista Ultimate) and tried to do something with it but the tomtom Home stopped working every single time I tried to use it. It would just say that the program is not responding and I tried it over and over with the same results. So all it does as of now, is just take me to the screen showing a picture of my tomtom telling me to hook it up to the computer. Any help is greatly appreciated.
