Problems with 2 devices

I am having problems with my TomTom devices. I bought the TomTom ONE XL-S back in June 08. It worked pretty good other than it kept falling off the windshield because the suction cup woudln't hold it. I cleaned the cup, the windshield but it kept falling off. Just last week it quit working. It will not get power from the cord. I just moved to Houston and don't know the area at all and I rely on it to get around. So I stopped to purchase a new one at Best Buy last week.

I bought the 330 XL and it only lasted about 5 days. The software appears to have locked up searching for the satellites. So that's two devices in less than 6 months I've had to buy. Not to mention being lost during the down time. I am very disappointed in the quality of the devices purchased and if I have to purchase yet another device it will NOT be a TomTom.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Okay for problem #1, make sure both the surface you're attaching to and the suction cup itself are extremely clean. Rubbing alcohol helps, and provides a bit of moisture if the surface(s) are too dry. If you drive a pickup or really anything that jerks everything around a lot, TomTom's provided suction cups might not be enough. I love my Arkon suction cup mount from the Mount Guys; it only came off unexpectedly once in the last 6 months even though I move it around from car to car pretty often. I know it's too late for that device, but that may help you prevent problems with the next device, TomTom or not.

As for as the 330 XL, reset it, use the flash clearing tool, and make sure you have the most recent firmware installed. When my unit freezes up it at least resets itself; if yours doesn't even do that, you may have a defective unit. TomTom Support is very good about sending replacement hardware.

TomTom devices seem to be much higher maintenance than other GPS's but I still think they do a better job of getting me to my destination on time than my Magellan RoadMate 3050T ever did. That locked periodically too but as I previously described here, whereas the Magellan RoadMate has fewer bugs but those few are severe (honestly, who can manage sticking a paper clip into the reset hole while driving?), TomTom tends to have a lot more bugs, most of them minor.
