Problem with GO 730 speaker.

I just purchased a TomTom GO 730 today and I'm having a bit of trouble. Everything seems to work fine except one small thing. The speaker gives off a static noise. The voices are fine and are not distorted, but from the moment it's turned on until it is turned off there is a slight but audible static noise coming from the TomTom speaker. I've tried turning off the audio but it is still there. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Try turning the brigness setting up and down, does the noise change at all as you do this - if so it could be the screen backlight inverter causing the noise (something I have heard before) - Mike

I tried turning day and night time brightness from 0% all the way to 100%. The static noise is still there and sounds about the same volume.

Could be faulty hardware. Perhaps an exchange is in order.

Thanks everyone. I'll email TomTom about this to see what they have to say. I'm sad that my first GPS unit had to have a problem.

Is it charged completely. I was using mine without being plugged in for a time and found I had the same issue when the battery went down.

Yes, it was fully charged when I used it. I contacted TomTom and followed their instructions for an entire week. They sure made me jump through many hoops trying to get the unit to work but that is a sign that they know what they are doing. When everything failed I received a RMA number and shipping label to send it to their USA center in Texas. Now I can only hope that the RMA process doesn't take to long and that my unit can be fixed (it doesn't seem like a major problem anyway).

UPDATE: They received my unit on the 20th and it's been shipped back to me today the 21st (delivery date is the 25th). Either they fixed the problem in less than a day, don't get many RMAs, or couldn't fix/can't find the problem. I'm hoping it's the first. Now I must wait 4 days to get my unit back (UPS doesn't deliver on Saturdays).
