I have just updated my map (update service) on my 740 live and it will not now start up.
It shows the TomTom screen with the yellow ine going across then the opening screen which stays for a period before it reboots back to the TomTom screen so its in a loop.

Help please.

Do this:

Start Home.........with your unit connected.

Use the emulator (Operate my Unit).

Move to Manage Favourites and change one of them (just add one, delete one, edit one, you choose).

Now, disconnect the unit PROPERLY from the computer by using the blue icon in the bottom right of Home's screen.

Restart the 740. You should be good to go.

No do

When I try via TomTom Home v 2.7 it states "This functionality not yet supported for combination of navigation device & application version & computer operating system.

I have Windows XP it has always stated this message.

Okay, do this:

1. Goto Control Panel--Add/Remove Programs and scroll down to TomTom Home and remove it.
2. Goto this link and, in the bottom right of the page, you'll see a link to Home 2.6.4. Download it and install it.
3. Now, go back to the steps I listed in my previous post about running the emulator, etc.

Scroll DOWN the initial page and on the right side in a grey box is a listing of all Home applications. The second one on the list is 2.64.

Resolved I hope

Thanks dhn.

I think the external & internal files were corrupted, upable to read memory card when out of TomTom.

What I have done is remove memory card and deleted all files apart from the folder files on the internal memory and then copied over those files from my back-up folder.
Seems to work OK and retained the latest downloaded map file.

Hello DHN,

This fix also works for the TomTom 930T, which was rebooting continually after the latest map update.

By adding a favorite (I didn't have any, since they were removed by previous map update, where all configuration data was cleared except for POIs), the problem stoped and the system is usable again.

Thanks for the post. If possible, this should be a FAQ on the TomTom support site as a work-around to any time the system goes into a reboot cycle, but still connects to the computer and is operable from TomTom Home.

BR

Eric

Thanks for the feedback.

Guess I should make a 'sticky' in the General TT Discussion Forum.

I'm having the same problem as the OP. I tried Home 2.7 hoping it resoled the issue of not being able to operate my 720 through the computer as I had this problem with Home 2.6.

I'll rollback to Home 2.5 and post my results using this fix

I still get the "This functionality not yet supported for combination of navigation device & application version & computer operating system.' when using Home 2.6, Any Ideas?

I got my 740 going I went into the MapSettings.cfg file and just copied some text (one of my favorites) and then pasted it at the bottom, saved it and now it works. Only thing is now when I plug in my TomTom it no longer shows the TomTom Icon in My Computer, just a removable disk icon.

Update from TomTom

I am also having intermittent problems with the voice not always providing directional or any information.
Just received this info back from TomTom Support
"It has come to my attention that you are not the only one with this issue, and currently there is no solution.
Do you have a backup of the old Map that you could re-load until we can find the cause of the issue and resolve it?
I hope to have a proper solution soon, and in the mean time I thank you for your patients and understanding."

I think in future I will wait at least a week before updating any map or operating system.

I got my icon issue sorted just copied autorun from backup. I have to say that as much I am happy with my tomtom it does have problems, the random restarts in the middle of a journey. I read that disabling bluetooth helps, tried that made no difference. I always keep a manual backup before app / map updates. TomTom support does appear to be useless.

Map settings Help

I have looked at my map settings file and it is showing Microdsoft outlook configeration file! Could that be causing all the problems and how do I solve it.

Don't worry what Windows reports the file type as. TT is written in linux and, as such, has different uses for the various extensions.

TomTom have finally emailled me about this issue and their solution is

"Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Care in regards to repairing your TomTom.
I have set up a repair for your TomTom. Your Repair Number (RMA number) is xxx.

Within the next hour, you will receive a separate email from our repair centre with instructions on how to send your TomTom in to us."

Its amazing that thru this forum and my own messing about (adding a favorite to MapSettings.cfg, manually thru notepad) that I got it working, yet TomTom seem to have no idea how to fix this without sending it to them. Again its Forum 1-0 TomTom Support.

Roll back map

I reinstalled the previous map version as suggested by TomTom support. This completely locked my TomTom which would then not go beyond the start-up screen, not even the restart loop I had before. I deleted all files from internal and memory card and reinstalled all files from the 2 back-up folders and everything now working OK.
It'sinteresting to see that TomTom support are providing different answers to people, mine and the other providing a return repair number!
Still not able to operate TomTom via Home.

Lost Favourites

Re-installed map update (followed TomTom advice to copy Favourites to file before update) following update TomTom worked OK until I re-installed previous Favourites, then went into the reboot loop.
Deleted Map Settings so now works however Favourites greyed out. Cannot operate TomTom via Home so cannot edit my Map settings file.
How do I get hold of an original version of the Map settings file to reinstall so I can use Favouries function?
