i recently got my GO930 and I would like to request if any of the members or moderators can post a Step by Step Procedure on How to Swicth from One firmware to the Other and vice versa.Reason being is that I would used the 8.010 utilizing the FM Transmitter while playing mp3 at the same time while driving within the province, and then switching to the latest firmware when I go across the border. Any help is much appreciated.

Well, I'm not clear what 'other firmware' you are referring to. I also do not know what map version you have.

Let's put it this way....

TomTom will boot first to a sdhc card if it detects the firmware on it. That being the case, you can have firmware 8.010 installed on a sdhc card along with map 810 or lower (because you need firmware 8.3x for the functionality of map 815 or higher). And have firmware 8.3 installed on internal with map 815 or higher.

When you want the fm capability, insert the sdhc card (along with the related map) in the unit and boot up. When you want the 8.3 firmware and associated map, pull out the sdhc card and boot up on internal.

Right now I have 8.010 on my GO930, if I upgraded to 8.3 I will loose the FM transmitter capabilities. What I would like to do is the Flexibility of being able to swicth firmware from one version to the other by saving 8.10 to my computer first, then download the 8.3. to the device. then save 8.3 to the computer and replace it with 8.10 back to the device and vice versa until they have a fix to be able to use the FM transmitter again in the near future. And lastly do you use Home to save this file in your computer and also transfer it back to your device. thanks

The 8.3 cab file is saved to your computer prior to installation on the unit. Look at the Preference settings in Home for the location of folders and see what the folder location is for downloads.

So after making sure that 8.1 and 8.3 is already save in your computer, will you be able now to switch from one to the other using Home. thanks again and sorry for all the question as I am still green behind the ears when it comes to computer.

This is what I did for a while during experimenting. Really the same as what dhn described above "TomTom will boot first to a sdhc card if it detects the firmware on it. That being the case, you can have firmware 8.010 installed on a sdhc card along with map 810 or lower (because you need firmware 8.3x for the functionality of map 815 or higher). Firstly back up using windows explorer your TT internal and external drives ensuring the option "show all hidden files and folders" is used.
So in Home with tomtom connected and with SD card installed, tell home to use the external memory SD card and install 8.010 and your 810 map to the SD card. Disconnect from computer and check that 8.010 works. you can check the version by tapping on the satelite bars. The ver # will be shown. Tap on Ver for still more detail incld map #.
Power off TT and remove sd card, then repeat process in Home but this time use internal memory and install Ver 8.302 application and latest map to internal .
Thas as DHN says just insert or remove SD depending on what vers you want.

Procedure in Switching Firmware

Thanks for the heads up.now my question is can I use an 8GB SDHC card to save my 8.014 firmware and 810 map and also my mp3 files on the same card so that everything is all in one card. Thanks again dhn and dennisj.

If you put the application on the memory card with the mp3 files you will only be able to access the music from the earlier application, to get the newer Navcore will require booting the device without the card in the device which means no music!

I would consider putting the mp3 tracks on the space made vacant by removing either the USA or European map folder, this way you can have the limitted music collection available when booting from the device off the SD card, you can allways put the removed map back on the device when you travel across the pond - Mike
