I was apparently a silly customer, I thought that updates would improve my device.

The best that it ever worked was with software v7.221 and maps 715.

I "upgraded" to map 720 which made my vr malfunction, so then I tried software v7.481 which only partially corrected the problem. TT's solution is to "wait for the next update hopefully that will work." I spent an hour on the phone to hear that the update is screwed up.

Now, luckily I made a backup of my 920 right out of the box, which has software 7.221 and map 710. I also backed up map 715.

How do I go about putting these back on my device? Should I erase my TT then copy the backup onto it? Should I just copy my backup to the device overwriting any files? Can I just copy the old software files to overwrite the buggy one? If so where do I find the software files?

Thanks in advance.

The best thing going for you is the fact you have backups. Backup your unit as is, including the 720 map folder. Now then, my first inclination would be to try to overwrite the files in the root of the unit with the 7.221 files you have backed up. You may want to do a pin reset and start the unit.

Now then, do all the VR functions work? If so, then I'd be inclined to leave it there....... (and make another full [Explorer]). If there are still issues, then you may want the 7.221/715 map combo.

That's what I'd try, anyway.

Thanks for the warning; I'm about to upgrade to map 720.

I agree with dhn. back up your unit first.
The easiest method is to use windows explorer.
Copy your 7.221 backup and replace the files on your current unit. You can leave out the 7.10 map
Next, delete the 7.20 map and copy over the 7.15 map. Disconnect your unit from the computer and let it register the new files and you should be good to go.

I did everything you said, but now the unit doesn't recognize any map of North America, but the F drive lists it in its contents, how do I "register" the files? I already tried a pin reset.

Does Home see the maps on the computer when you choose the icon for Items on my computer. If so, try reinstalling that way using Home.

Or, you may have to get there by Home: Add maps/voices, etc--items on computer.

The thing is maps have to be installed using Home to get the activation file altered to be read by the unit.
