Hi there, I just joined the forum and was wondering if somebody could help me. I drive for a living and i am wanting to upgrade my gps to either a GO 750 or 950. I have a few of questions.
1. I do a lot of driving in the city and my previous gps's would go haywire. Does the " ENHANCED POSITIONING TECHNOLOGY" on the 950 work ok in the city and in tunnels.
2. If I have the gps plugged into my vans power socket Does the 750 & 950 turn off automatically after switching the ignition off.
3. Lastly do you recommend these two devices, has any one had any problems.

Thanks in advance:)

The 950 has not made its way to the North American shores (as of yet, anyway) but the EPT technology seems to work ok for those with the 930 units here and in Europe.

You can do a battery saving preference to shut down the unit when external power is lost.

For further assistance, see if supermod, Mikealder replies to this thread. He's based in the UK. If you don't see a response from him in 24 hours, just pm him. Oh, he HAS a 950! :p

EPT is OK in tunnels but there are hardly any tunnels in the UK with junctions within them so its of limitted use in the UK, other countries would find this ability quite handy.

The x50 range has the option to auto power off, it cannot auto power on.

If you don't intend subscribing to the Live services I would think long and hard before purchasing a Live equipped device, the HD Traffic we enjoy in Europe is great, Google Live search is also very good, this does of course only apply if the x50 units sold in your country are Live devices as some countries don't have Live services available, x50 units sold in these areas don't have the SIM card or GPRS modem built in - Mike

The EPT works very well if the vehicle proceeds at a steady speed.
It screws up completely if driving under an elevated expressway and encounters several long red lights.
It turns right several hundred yards, then left then back to the spot where it went crazy and the shows a U-turn and announces Turn back when possible.
This is not a one off but consistent behaviour.
(Down ramp Yonge/Bay Gardiner E, following Lakeshore Blvd to Reese).
If I am on the most southerly lane it picks up satellites at the second light and corrects itself.
I only have the unit on because of hands free Bluetooth calling but it could be disturbing to someone from out of town as that is an extremely busy corridor.

In the month that I've had my 930, I've found EPT very error-prone in tunnels. In Boston there are many underground exits and forks in the tunnels, and the EPT usually thinks I'm going down the wrong way on an exit.

However, I find it extremely helpful in downtowns. The tall building reflections that cause non-EPT models to go haywire are all corrected with EPT. My 930 knows perfectly where I am almost all the time in midtown manhattan, where my 720 got hopelessly lost (put me on the wrong street/direction, etc).
