I have a cell phone that my Rider2 "cant/wont" find. The phone finds the Rider no problem and even shows it as "TomTom Rider".

Is there a trick to getting My Rider2 to recognize the phone? This particular phone is not listed on the TT support site. It is a UT Starcom "Wink" BT phone, brand new.

Cheers!

This is pretty common right out of the box. Check your phone's bluetooth settings and make sure it is set to be "discoverable" If not, no bluetooth device will see it and be able to connect.

For hands-free only - you won't have to mess with settings on the TomTom. For data services, you may.

Cheers

Yup, did that GAW. As I stated, the phone see's the TT, but not vice a versa.

I also just bought a Samsung phone and it found it pronto.

Just thought there might be a trick that some other forum user has used.

The Rider2 comes with a ScalaRider headset that fits into your helmet and "talks" to your phone via the Rider.

cheers

But the TT will not see the phone.... that is why the phone needed to be discoverable with a setting on the phone.

I am then surprised that the TT does not see it if the phone is discoverable and offers to try to connect, as any problems it has doing so usually come after it tries.

Need help....

I thought it was all working, but here is whats going on.

I have a new Samsung SPHm300 phone.

My Rider2 "finds" it no problem.

The phone shows it as "TomTom Rider2" when it searches for BT devices. When I try to pair it, all I get is "pairing failed" on the phone itself.

The phone shows up on the Rider, but when I try to set up a wireless data connection things go wrong.

The progress bar goes to 65% (checking phone features) when attempting to set up a wireless data connection and then it states unable to set up.

At some point a list of phones comes up (mine isnt listed), so I click on "other", which then asks for country, provider (not listed, but its MTS), so I click on "other" then asks for manual settings: access point name (what?), username (what?); password, IP address (DHCP); manual IP addy; DNS server; DNS address, Alt dial; Login Script, etc.

I am at a complete loss on how to fill in the info the Rider asks for.

Hoping someone has a simple explanation so I might be able to use this phone on my Rider2. Maybe it just isnt possible?

Cheers,

It does tho, the phone shows the Rider, but wont pair. The Rider shows and lists the SPH300 Samsung phone, but wont upload the phone info (I suspect because the phone doesnt actually pair).

GAW

Thanks for your help with pairing. I have finally been able to pair my new 730 with my Blackberry 8703..

Thanks again...

I was trying to pair my Samsung sph-a900 with my go930 and it always failed mid-way, ending up pairing only data transfers. I've just managed to enable 100% pairing this way:

1) I first started to find the tomtom from the phone bluetooth "search" and pair it.
2) then I've done the same from the tomtom trying to find the phone.

This solved the issue and they are now paired and working!

Well, first off, "Pairing" is for Bluetooth only, not "wireless". Not sure about the pairing. My Treo 700wx (not a "supported") phone paired and works fine for making receiving calls, hands free.

About wirless... yeah, the prompts are really confusing, IMHO. Anyway, it seems what they mean by "wireless" is basically a high speed Internet connection. (not a WiFi but a cellular wireless connection)

So, here's what I did...

Since I have an unlimited data connection on my cellular plan with my Treo 700wx (Verizon) and also a tethering option (use as a modem via a computer) I was able to successfully setup the wireless data connection using this "access point" (I think they made a bad choice of words with "access point" because that word is usually associated with WiFi and land-line connectivity.

Anyway, here's how I did it.

When the list of carriers cames up, Verizon was not listed, so I chose "other". Then, for username I put in the Verizon username, then password. Then it asked for number to dial (it was defaulted to something like *69#, I changed it to the Verizon modem number for tethering (#777). Also selected auto for DHCP and DNS. After doing all that, I can how reach "My Account" via the GO 720 with success using my Treo as the wireless connection.

Maybe this will help. Granted, in order to get this working the first step is the Blue Tooth piece. Blue Tooth simply enables the TT to communicate with your phone. All I can say to that is to make sure your phone is set to "discoverable" and BT is turned on. Also make sure BT is turned on in the TT Device. Mine said to use "0000" as the code if prompted on the phone, it worked for me.

Cheers,

It sounds like you may have it paired hands-free, as it normally does not go to data services setup until that is done first (and it does not ask you all those questions for hands-free). Did it confirm that it was set up hands-free, and then ask if you wanted to download your phone book?

As for the data settings - they are different for each cell service provider, and I have never seen MTS. The things that are being asked are fairly standard for tethering devices that connect to these providers. I am assuming you have a data plan with MTS, or setting up data is not possible.

If so, first see if anyone on this (or other forums) as set up a connection to MTS and has listed the settings you need. If not, contact MTS support and ask for their APN (access point name), [the user name and password on the Rider would be your TT info - ONLY if you have paid Plus Services - otherwise leave blank], IP address settings if MTS requires them (unlikely), DNS server and DNS address generally left at auto, ALt dial up number (would be specific to MTS), and Logon script (ditto to MTS).

I have to set this up for T-Mobile every time I pair a new device, and Tmo , AT&T, etc. major carrier settings are well laid out in this forum.

Again - you have to have an appropriate data plan with MTS - or nothing will work but hands-free - did you get that set up?

Thanks for all the great info/tips. I think things would go smoother if the phone itself would pair. The phone lists the Rider when I search, and it comes up on the phone screen. When I hit "save", it starts loading, but then halts and says "pairing failed".

Cheers

ps: MTS is Manitoba Telephone Services, the main telecom's provider in the province.

I don't know if this will help, but... for pairing... I just made my phone "discoverable" with BT on. Then I turned on BT on the TT. Not long later my phone lit up asking for a password, so I entered "0000" as per the instructions. Then I clicked "finished" on the phone and all was done. I never saw any "save" setting on my phone or the TT. I guess all phones and/or BT implementations are probably a little different though.

You need to get the Rider to do the pairing.

It sounded like your phone was "seen" by the rider. If it was/is, your TT should then have asked if you wanted to connect to that phone. After you indicated yes on the Rider - the phone should come back with a request for a password - enter 0000. After that, if successful - the TT would say so and then ask if you wanted to transfer you phone book to the TomTom.

After the hands free pairing was done by the TomTom, it would ask you if you wanted to set up data. Since you had gotten to this point - I was thinking you had gotten the hands-free pairing done?

Your phone then would have asked about "saving" the TomTom connection after the TomTom successfully paired with it first (otherwise - it would indicate a failure).

I also thought from an earlier post that the hands free was the primary use you were seeking to accomplish, so if that has not been done - give it another go.

Update:

We must be in the right moon phase...I got my Rider2 to pair with the phone, and it even transfered the phone book over to the Rider.

However, I have to manually enter the Wireless Data info for my phone provider in order to use any of the plus services (all is shows for Canada is Fido and Rogers). My provider (MTS) isnt listed on the device. I imagine I will have to get all the info from the provider:

Access point name;
Username;
Password;
IP address;
DNS server address;
Dial and Login Script.

Progress is a luvly thing.

Great to hear you got it paired - halfway there.

Also glad you kept trying - would have been disappointed if the guy that rode through the rain for several days heading cross county let a cranky TT and phone stop him in his tracks.

Cheers and Happy New Year.

Tom Tom only has wireless data setups for GSM systems. That is why Rogers and Fido are shown but none of the other Cdn carriers are, because they use the CDMA format. I have gotten limited wireless data to work with my HTC Touch Diamond (CDMA carrier Telus) Here is how I did it.

Username: left Blank
Password; left Blank
IP address = Auto
DNS = Auto
Dial = #777

I can use TT Plus service and can get weather. SMS read/ write doesn't work though.

Thanks for that info. What about Access Point name?

Will give it a whirl and try it.

All I want really is the weather.

Cheers

I am in the US, and have no problem getting Traffic and Weather on my Verizon Krzr which is CDMA. EVDO (G3) too.
