I was trying to route a trip to Oxford, OH and for the city it gave me 2 choices:

OXFORD, OH (ASHLEY) -actually Ashley, OH 50 north of Columbus, OH

OXFORD, OH (REILY) - OXFORD, OH - the actal one - north of Cincinnati, OH

They are 2 different locations, one is wrong and one is right. A hundred miles apart.

What is this?

Yeah, you'll find that for various locations wherein a city listing appears multiple times -- showing the city associated with various 'suburbs' so to speak.

And it is confusing, I agree. Part of the mapping data.

What map version are you running.
My North America v870.3406 only shows "Oxford OH (Butler County)".

If you have a Go Series model, tap the satellite bars to see the application version installed. Now, tap the version number and the next screen shows the map installed and its version.

If no satellite bars show on your unit, tap settings, system information.

It does it on the newest map. I was up there last weekend. Not sure why, but I can tell you that there are plenty of town in Ohio that have the same name. There are 2 Perry townships, about 75 miles from each other.

I googled OXFORD, OHIO and there is only one. Even Tom Tom says there is only one. The OXFORD (ASHLEY) is not Oxford it is Ashley, OH

SO, If I see this again I know there is a problem, BUT how do I know which is correct without mapping both and looking.

He may be referring to the USA_Canada_Mexico 870 map which does indeed have some differences over the NA 870, I think.

You purchase it through Home. Yes, it is not free. The current is 870 and 875 is due soon.

All maps have mistakes, so all sat nav brands will have mistakes.
It's a fact of life that you'll just have to get used to, I'm afraid.

When you agreed to the licence conditions (by breaking the seal on the box, you probably agreed to use the maps "as supplied", i.e.complete with errors.

Here you go....

6) LIMITED WARRANTY:
a)TomTom does not and cannot warrant that the Software and/or Hardware operate error-free. You should be particularly aware of the fact that calculation errors may occur when using Software and/or Hardware in a navigation system for instance caused by local environmental conditions and/or incomplete data.

b) Except for the Limited Warranty document included with the Hardware (“Limited Warranty”), if any, and to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, TomTom and its suppliers provide the Hardware and the Software “AS IS AND WITH ALL FAULTS”, and hereby disclaim all other warranties and conditions, whether express, implied or statutory.....

You might not know it, but you agreed to that...

I am a contractor that does programming and if Igave my client that type of condition (cannot warrant that the Software operates error-free) I would NOT get hired.

That is why we test programs.

I'm not saying it's right, just that it's there and we've all agreed to it..

TT do test their programs, but no-one could possibly "test" a map for total accuracy.

I've got no real problem with maps having errors... What does drive me (and everyone else) mad is how long it takes to get them fixed once people have gone to the trouble of reporting them.

Um, do you use Windows? Ain't no such thing as 'error free'. :)

p.s. I test software for a living...................

Oxford (Ashley) is Oxford Township in Ashley.
Just like the Oxford (Reily) is for Reily Township located just south of the town.
