One XL-S with an XL-S specific start screen

I had a ONE XL-S that I had to send in for repair. The startup screen for that device just said ONE XL on it. There was no S on the screen. I got a replacement device today and the unit sctually has ONE XL-S on the start up screen. Anyone know what's going on here because as long as the tomtom is up to date, I thoguht they all have the same software on them.

Good question, dhn.

To answer the other question, each model does have a different startup screen that is specific to the unit type.

If your other XL-S had XL on it and the replacement has XL-S, I find that rather odd.

However, as dhn asks:
a) Did your original unit have computer voices (i.e. did it say "Turn Left in 200ft, Johnson Road"? ( computer voice) or did it just say "Turn Left in 200ft" (voice)
b) Does the new unit have computer voices?

If they both have computer voices, then you did have both XL-S units and maybe they modified the startup image on later XL-S units to have the 'S"

Yes, both units have the TTS capability. They both also have the SD card slot so I know they are both XL-S models.

I can confirm my XL-S only had the bootup screen showing XL without the ?S? when I bought it new end of December 2007. I now have updated it with a splashw.bmp that shows it as XL-S that I think I downloaded from a thread in here. Thepresence of the Loquendo folder on the TT can confirm the presence of tts with Susan as the only installed computer voice.
