Hi all.
I have a One v3 & want to connect to my bike. I have an old TomTom car cigarette lighter charger that the plug into the lighter is no good. The end to the TomTom is good. I have cut this plug off & exposed the 3 wires. Red, White & Black.
I intend to purchase a new cigarette 'plug' & attach to the cable. Will this work?
What wires get connected to the 'plug'?
I assume the Red is positive & Black is negative.
Where does the White wire go to?

Thank you.:)

NO! DANGER!
The cigarette lighter "plug" is not just a plug, it is also a power supply that reduces the 12Volt car battery supply down to 5Volts.

If you plug 12V into the TomTom by using an ordinary cigarette lighter plug it will instantly fry it.

The third wire is a "sense" wire that should connect to the positive terminal at the plug end
You should never assume colour codes either.
In this case you're lucky though ;)

See here for more details on the sense wire and the CLA.

Get a replacement charger lead addapter (CLA) then fit a 12V ciggy socket to the bike and plug the CLA in to that.

As Andy has explained if you put 12V straight in to the TomTom it will fry it, for a short duration you will see smoke but once the smoke has escaped from the device it won't work - Mike
